Steering gear is leaking like a crazy, and pretty sure it needs a gasket, but the Haynes says to take it to dealer for any overhaul.
Anyone with experience in regasketing one of these have any warnings?

If it’s the original setup, it’s a 1 piece column/box. The pitman arm on mine was tight! I couldn’t remove mine while mounted in the frame due to access room, but it came off easily in a vice. I made my own gasket but one (?) of the seals is still available at Toyota. I didn’t find it to be too difficult of a job and there’s write-ups on here that detail it well.

Edit: Found the write-up I used: Coolerman for the wind.

My plan is just leave it in place and remove the side plate (with the adj nut) make a gasket and put it back.
my hope is that there are not going to be pieces that fall out.😀
