Hi!

I am rebuilding my ifs setup on my 4-runner, and am planning to use a LJ70 front axle with original radius arms. Is there a good way to increase flex in this setup? I am planning to use 4" lift coils.

Anybody with a few ideas for me? :)

Using the 70 control arms not much than you relly get from 'em .. but with the same concept you can do a one simple link and the onther one ( tipically drivers side ) with 2 atach point to the axle .. Like a 3 link with panhard ..

Other option in the 80 forum it's pull put one of the axle atach bolts for one arm of course ..

The 7X series control arms can have good flex. This surf has 5.5 diesel 80 series springs front and rear and flexes quite well. The front axle and arms are out of an LJ-78. also when we added the poly caster correction bushings it flexed even better.

There are 2 styles of LJ70 front radius arm, the early style stud end - which flexes better, & the newer eye end ones like I have which is still OK flex-wise but not as good as the old style.

I would not use the new style, they are very weak, I've bent 2 really easily, I'm looking at fabricating some stronger ones. Not sure how strong the old ones are. I would look for a longer, stronger arm if possible.

Cheers

The ones on this surf are the new type and he has only bent one due to the tire hitting the arm at full turn in a bad situation. After he added spacers he has never bent an arm again. He goes wheeling almost every weekend and abuses the hell out of it.
Like Clintnz said the older ones do flex better they have the pin and the eye just like old Ford Bronco arms which flex good. Get some of the older ones if you can but the newer ones work just fine.

.

That's interesting, I'm only on 32s & 40mm of lift & mine have bent like they were made of cheese!
