Today I cut off the cross member support for the spare. Welded a cross bar at the end of the frame. This will give plenty of space for the water tank, heater, pumps etc.
Frame is ready for sand blast, and powder coating. Waiting for a trailer.

The frame finally went to sand blast and powder coat. Was a challenge loading it on a borrowed trailer. Used the 40 series winch 90 degree to the rear bumper with a pulley. How fun to use the winch without getting stuck.
Removed the front axle at the paint shop and delivered only the frame.
Now we wait…

Moving slowly. Too slow in my opinion. Frame has been sand blasted and now at the paint shop. Today I built a cart to support the frame that will roll into the oven. Frame is 15.5' long and the oven is only 14' at the bottom so we had to tilt it to fit over the blower of the oven. We shall see how that will come out in a few days. I'm lucky to have a friend that own a commercial paint shop. Sand Blast was $550 at a place close by the paint shop, but the painting was free.

Frame came out of the oven. At this point the assembly process begins. Still waiting to get the axles. I’m excited.

I've been told they have a giant pile of 40 series and 70 series for parts...
I purchased two new rear doors from Partsouq.
If they aren't available from them, get with Dave. Buy 78-series doors. There's a thread in the 70-Series section about the differences between 75 and 78 doors. It's minor. Mostly to do with the the latching mechanism.

Got the frame delivered today. Looks new. Now we wait for the axles from Valley Hybrids. My friend @orangefj45 is in charge of rebuilding them with Eaton lockers and I would not trust anyone else. He has this magical touch. This project has no schedule, and it's not that I don't have anything else to drive. We just came back from Flagstaff driving the 80. Slept in the Mojave watching the starts. I'm not sure why I need a troopy. We just love traveling and living in the 80. I do enjoy the 'journey' of the build meeting people and making new friends. When it's done, we will see how they compare to each other. At the moment I still think the 80 series was designed at Toyota finest hour.

Axles are ready for the build at Valley Hybrids. Once the front axle is done, I can mount it and start mounting the drivetrain and plumbing (cooling system, AC and intercooler. My guess 2-3 weeks. Currently the frame is sitting on the old rear axle and a rolling table in the front.

I just found out that I have made one serious mistake. The gussets on the frame for the radius arm are 27” apart (inside to inside). Well, the 79 frame and front axle are 25.25”. My opinion is that it’s for the narrow nose early models. I think I found an axle with the correct spacing in Canada and will know more in a couple of weeks. That puts a delay on the project but no body died (YET!). Both frame rails are identical so the gussets are different.

Still waiting for the axles, but decided to drop the engine into the frame. Also got the nose parts so I can box the engine compartment and start plumbing. Cooling system, AC and intercooler. Can't wait to get the frame rolling. Parts from the paint shop came very shiny.
