70 series Rear Axle into 45LV?

Pros/cons of swapping a 70 series semi floating rear axle under a 1966 45LV (in order to gain a rear axle parking brake. I'll be switching to a split transfer without a parking brake assembly)

Is a 70 series axle significantly weaker than the 45s?

Pro = just a wee bit wider if from the pickup or troopy, plus these are Full Floaters IIRC. Con = likely to take a little work to get everything to line-up. Which 70 series are you looking at? Weaker?

interchangeable diffs - yes

weaker - no

slightly wider than a 40 series but nothing worth mentioning, ends up being really close to front axle width

dissect spring perches and inboard them approximately 3/4" each

done

You can also use a late 40ser housing and put 60ser or 75 sre backing plates on . I put 75 ser backing plates on my hj47 rear diff.Bolt straigh on.

If i could find the late housing it would already have the parking brake...

Keep us updated on this one mate. I'd like to know how much "value" I could get out of a 70 series donor truck as they are pretty thick on the ground over here. I will prob go with discs for my V too and maybe engine a drivetrain from 70 series could be a good option but I'm still a bit back and forth in my head about stock or not.
