IH 65 Scout (1 Viewer)

Been working on this 65 Scout for about 6mos now. This is my first attempt at attempting a project like this, so..... I'm learning as I go, and not perfect.

So far.... Lots of body filler REMOVAL, dent pulling, cutting and welding panel patches. Body filler applied, but nowhere near the amount I removed. New clutch, clutch master and slave cylinder, dual reserivor brake master cylinder from a Jeep CJ (vs single reserevior), New brake lines, comple rewire with 10si alternator. Raptorlined interior floorboards and bed, D&C rear roll/ show bar. Got title, CA registration, and insurance, too!

Far from done and waiting on a few pieces, but should be able to cruise it around pretty soon.

New tires and working on seats and seatbelts. Tires were not what I ordered, but they'll do for now.

Hit the road for the first time. Steering wandered pretty bad. Installed some 4* shims and all good now. Besides being slooooooow, it was a great ride. My boys were concerned that something was wrong because all the people waving at us. Still a long way to go, but at least it's drivable now

Took the Scout to a local Cars and Coffee last weekend. My buddy and his dad took theirs, too. Good times!

Thanks! Yup, that's his shop. Tore it down, and put it on a running chassis over there before bringing it home. How long ago did you get yours? My last project (66 Nissan Patrol) sat in my sideyard for 11 years. Lost motivation on it. Jon found a buyer for it, and sold me the scout. Been working on the thing almost every day since I got it last March. Just want get it done before it ends up like the last project.

Got the top, doors, and some glass done during the holidays. Also swapped out the urethane engine mounts for rubber ones. Well worth it.

Oh damn! He tried to get me to buy that patrol! I was interested in it, but given i hadnt touched the scout, figured i should pass. I bought it from him a year and a half, maybe almost 2 years ago? Havent done a thing to it but collect some parts for “one day”.

That's crazy! Small world... The patrol was pretty cool. One of the rare soft tops. The way scouts are going up in $$$, yours is getting more valuable just sitting there. I had no idea what fixed up ones go for till after I got mine.

You also into landcruisers? When you look at an FJ40 next to a scout…..you can see why the FJ40 is regarded so highly for strength and durability. I like the scout, its a cool truck, but everything is tiny compared to the landcruiser. Im actually planning to put the scout body onto an FJ60 chassis.

I am. I have a 100 series. It's actually a Lexus LX470.... it's just a fancy version of a LC. I like you're idea of mounting the scout on top of a 60, and yeah, early scouts definitely check the weak box. Little power, tranny/ transfer case, axles... that'd be a sweet setup if you pull it off!

Suns out so pulled the scout out of the garage. Installed a Saturn OD last weekend. What a difference.

I really like that tach mount and the radio. Sweet 80. The '65 80 I bought from Jon a couple years ago is still sitting just as it did the day I pulled it off the trailer..
