I'm looking at adding a first gen dodge diesel to my 60 series so I can tow a car hauler or travel trailer.
I'm looking for input ! Thinking the Cummins 5.9 with 5speed.
Search for the threads on this - it's a tight fit, and is front-axle-crushingly heavy. You also won't have enough wheelbase for serious towing. Noise abatement in the FJ60 will be a big deal, too. Think about all the things affected by this engine - steering, rear axle, brake capacity, tire load capacity, etc. I would buy the Dodge with the 5 speed (or a 7.3 Ford) and tow with that.
Several 4BT conversions have been done and less 6BT and the new hot sauce is the R2.8. But other than those three, there's not another contender that's been popular
