Looking for some input/help...

So i’m close to having my 88 driveable, finally... after a 2+ month process of stripping the entire truck, enamel + 2k, based with Toyota’s newer Cement Grey, and a glamour clear finish (previous owner painted it like a Chevy Camaro blue, SMH).

Engine runs great, 130k miles. Changed all fluids, belts, new AC discharge line and dryer, etc. Also found a set of Skyjacker H7000s...

Have a few more cosmetic things to change out, but looking for suggestions for any major items as far as mechanics.

It sways when making a turn getting on the interstate, any suggestions for anti sway bars or other part replacements.

Looking for a little bit of get up and go, even if it’s just on the low end?

Also, if anyone has any ideas on the best way to level an FJ62... please give me a shout

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Open to any and all suggestions, thanks.

truck looks good...would look better with some stock LC 16" wheels

As far as swaying and some low end grunt....If its swaying, you're going too fast. Its a 30+ year old Land Cruiser based on 60+ year old tech.
Low end grunt? Maybe a V8 conversion?

A 2" lift kit will stiffen it up a bit, but ride a bit harsher.

I bought it in May, and the previous owner gave me literally everything that came on the stock truck (even the original options sheet written in Japanese) So I have the original rims, I may do that eventually. The rims and tires on it are brand new, I’m changing out the lugs and lip bolts with chrome hardware to give it a bit more “curb appeal”.

It will sway just coming around a bend, just trying to tighten all that up. Our roads in New Orleans have no mercy. But it’s definitely a weekend cruiser. Also, just looking to level the front end out.

I’d really love to keep the 4.0 in it, so I’m just looking for something to help give me a little pickup. Eventually, I might do an engine swap.

Also steering is a little tough, even after changing out my belts and tightening up the pulleys.

Basically, I am looking for any tips on things to change out in order to get this thing into reliable shape.... and in 6 months I’ll start addressing major modifications. The paint job took a nice chunk of change out of my pocket, had to be done. Luckily I’m in the body shop biz.

1st off the rig is looking great! 130K original miles- just getting broken in! Very low miles...and in this market drives up the value. For each there own but I would not be considering any engine swap with what you have in hand.
Steering sway- not a mechanic but an owner, can speak to my experiences driving several before I finally found my Ella. Could need to address the steering box? I drove one and it needed a rebuild steering box- but it felt very unsafe on turns. Is there a lot of play in the steering wheel? Could be culprit for “sway” Last- the OME medium lift- steering stabilizer improves the steering stability and feel 100% in my opinion.

Digging through some old hard drives and found this moody and muddy shot of the 62.

Hello, everyone! Loving this thread, just finished reading it all! :) Some breathtaking photography there was and sexiest LCs too :)

My addition to the "porn", this is how I've spent this summer and covid isolation.

Both front and rear axles rebuilt, cable lockers, full floater rear :)

Stainless steel body-frame mounting tubes nearby the lockers handles. These are going to be forever now x) The factory tubes rotted out inside the bushings...

PTO case with reverse gear! I've been hunting for that rare one for a while, anyone who've used a PTO winch a lot, would know how useful a reverse gear can be.

H55F rebuilt too, ready for installation.

Great work - looking sharp!! Did you refresh the locker handles and assembly or get a new one? Mine was painted by the PO so also looking to refresh.

I hope there was a better line beyond the left edge of the picture. That skill of letting the bumper down easy for the drag. 😉

Skilled ass dragging is just part of 60 life! I'm so happy with my rear bumper. Its a Teton Crusiers kit I welded myself about 10 years back. 1/4'' plate steel with 1/2'' plate tow points & attachments. Stout ass protection from that departure angle
