PO added 60 PS to my 40 but it's mounted on the frame rail on the front like a Saginaw conversion. Any advantage/disadvantage of mounting in the engine bay like the other 60 conversions I've seen?

Post up a couple pictures of what you have....

X2 on the pics

I knew better to post without pics, I'll get some up tonight.

So what PS is this? Why couldn't/shouldn't it be mounted like PabloCruise's in the engine bay?

The aluminum plate in the first pic is illegible as it was painted, not stamped, and then painted over.

That sure looks like a 60 series PS box to me (note: I'm not an expert).

But it looks like they mounted it so far forward maybe to try avoiding the shock towers? Do you have the originals, or F-250 shock towers there?

that's not a 60 series box that I've ever seen. 60 series box's use 4 bolts on the side. also with the arm on backwards you'd have to turn the wheel in the opposite direction than where you wanted to go.

I'd be wary of the frame bracing also, doesn't look like a lot of extra "beefing" up
and what kind of tie rod end is connecting the rod to the steering arm? no castle nut, kinda hard to tell if there is a cotter pin in there???

That is not a 60 box.

I have no clue what PS box that is.....

Kinda cool tho

It looks like a 70 series p/s box to me , I was considering the same setup but it looked like it brought the box too far forward ,and prob. in the way of the wheel while it it was in full lock

I must have been huffing glue or something yesterday. I'm an idiot. Clearly not a 60 PS box, for LOTS of reasons.

Kind of looks to me like Poser found it.

Kind of off topic, but related: are 70 series and 60 series boxes pretty much the same internally, other than the pitman arm direction? And are all 70 series pitman arms to the back, or did it change for different years/models? Anybody done a 70 series PS swap?

Dan

not a '60 box... doubt that it is a Cruiser box... and '60 box are NOT mounting in the engine compartment... the attach to the outside of the frame and sit outside and on top of the frame.

That box has to be mounted out front because the arm points to the rear
if you mounted it further back and turned the arm around... it would steer backwards.

Mark...
