The recent AX into DISC. / NLA status of the 69052-90A06 Drivers side front door lock for all 60 series 8/80-1990 has now created a bump in the road of sorts all things 60 Series locks and keys ....

- this one lock has not made me as concerned for the long term future , as i was more the peaved that TOYOTA from some sort of wisdom one day without any hint of a clue , chopped the 69055-90A06 FJ60 / BJ60 / HJ60 / HJ61 analoge or manually actuated back push button hatch lock cylinder assy. seemingly overnight ? Reason is , there are ZERO aftermarket options on the globe , and my 2 thus far failed attempts at submission of a proposal plan to 2 very different aftermarket Automotive Lock makers / reproducers both met with the same general reply ..... " this was above there mechanical ability " in addition neither shop / company recognized it nor had any idea it belonged to a TOYOTA vehicle platform ? this was a eye opening moment for me professionally , because both companies , both outside the usa , are considered at the top of there gam in what they do and do well too ...

- this was approx. 2+ years ago now or tad less , .... another member and myself had just completed a live protype test fit , of the currently available at the time manual 69055-90A06
into his usa spec. FJ62 , that came with the power actuated 69055-90a14 originally , we fashioned a new insider the door shell linkage rod , same in kind soze spec. the L bends on the end and crush detents to boot , it was a adapter in the purest sense of the word , and allowed the power actuator , to communicate mechanically with the manual lock cylinder tail piece orange plastic clip , we ALSO had fashioned a 2nd adapter for those who still needed a new FJ62 rear hatch lock , but it simply removed it from the power door locks actuator system entirely ...

- basically we took a NLA complex 3n on the tree shifter linkage assy , and dumbed it down , to a simple floor shifter type :D

- This now leaves the FJ62 Ignition lock cylinder 69057-90A08 the only 60 61 62 series anything sole survivor left available globally from TOYOTA Dealers

- hummmm ..... if anyone has any ideas , thoughts or suggestions on the whole back push button hatch 69055- lock cylinder topic , bring it on !

- more positive new and updates below :

I have been experimenting on hand stamping the used parts locks with various little die stamps like toyota did back in the day …

At one time every single individual lock cylinder you purchased from toyota dealer was stamped and the both keys too !

Now we are lucky to get a chrome tag 🏷️!!???

Infact as of 3 weeks ago , the last of the available 60 series locks was finally disc . / NLA 69052-90A06 drivers side door 8/80 -1990 all things 60 series FJ , BJ , HJ etc

The only sole surviver is the FJ62 gas engine ignition lock cylinder 69057-90A08 ….

NO DIESEL any more !

The writing is one the wall , after all no toyota uses a metal key any longer Globally …

But I’m the brighter side TEq key and locks news flash :

Today Marks the day officially , every single lock cylinder that leaves the skunk works shall me hand stamped with the corresponding key code

If it has a code stamped on it allready …

I shall polish it off and re-stamp it to the re-key factory code

Now I fully understand and have respect for those at toyota who hand stamped all the locks so long ago …

The SH#T ain’t easy and u have to remove the paddle arms

The ignition locks are hard as hell and like
To roll !!!

But from now on :

Image courtesy of @cruiseroutfit about the difference regarding 69057-22041 and 69057-90A08 which are the ignition cylinders for FJ60 and FJ62.

The -22041 is really the 1981-1984 Cressida cylinder Toyota repurposed for the FJ60 and a few others like the 1979-1983 Toyota Pickup. Thus, it has a different key profile that is different than the ones a Land Cruiser originally would’ve had and what 69057-90A08. 90A08 have 90999-00085 and 90999-00104 which are the original LC keys ( and a host of 1980s Toyotas). Included with -22041 are cut 90999-00069 (metal) and 90999-00103 (black top).

Both 90999-00069 and 90999-00103 are unfortunately discontinued as blanks. However if you have a -22041 and want an OEM key to make copies of, the keys to get are 90999-00099 or 90999-00118. Essentially newer slightly longer versions but with the same key profile.

Hope this helps someone.

I am actively deep into having all these HJ60 / BJ60 / BJ61 / HJ61 variations of the ignition lock cylinders Re-Produced using 💯 % toyota OEM foundation parts as a at starting base line …

SCREW CHINA. Getto grade crap !

As MUDS new up and coming Vintage Toyota Lock and Key’s anything Padawan Apprentice @84Cressida keenly points out well above ⬆️

The 69057-22041 had a similar OUTER body but a different internal GUTS key Cressida profile core …

I have a good pile of these , and all the backwards and sideways parts # superscession ign locks ..

I have deduced the TEq-SKUNK-WORKS on how to active this on paper and a hand made prototype! Working and all too …!

But I need to find a unique machine shop to make the first real and text book production runs

It’s super super important to make a needed 69057-90A34 BJ60 8/80-9/81 one model year only unicorn 🦄 I grow and raise from
Birth here at the Laboratory …..

NOT a SOR ( SH#T out of Reach ) parts topic

Rather within reach of the student owner operator or the single Female owner operator / Mother of 2 making it happen yet needing this kind of lock cylinder to get to and from the work and little ones to and from skool safe …

THIS IS THE WAY …

As a quick correction - I think the key that comes with 69057-90A08 is actually 90999-00106, which is slightly longer. I did some sleuthing and 90999-00104 is slightly shorter. I started noticing this when I saw @ToyotaMatt’s earlier photos on this thread showing locks and saw the back door lock had a shorter key. Then did some research.

Above is a set of keys from a LC. Look at where slice in the key profile (for lack of better word) meets the black rubber head. There’s a bit of a gap. Also compare it in size to the metal 90999-00066 next to it. Pretty close in length.

Now look at where the slice is in comparison to the rubber head. Much closer. That’s confirmed with the first photo which is a set of MR2 keys and that car uses 90999-00106.

So, 69057-90A08 ignition comes with a 90999-00106, not 00104 as I said above. Which is why it sticks out so long in the ignition. Does any of this matter? No. But interesting Toyotaphile stuff nonetheless
