Hi All, I'm new in here, and just wondering if anyone has installed a 6.5L TD w/Electronic fuel pump into a 40/45.

I am about 60% done installing a 6.5 in my 1978 FJ45, and just wanted to see how otheres have done it, and how they got everything to work properly.

A 6.2 is "alot" easier, I'm working on one with an Electronic pump. Someone must be out there with a 6.5L???

i dont honestly see why the 6.5 would be much harder... the turbo is gonna eat some room but all you really gotta do differently is find a place for the ecu.. i dunno maybe im over simplifying it, but having worked on both engines they are pretty much the same.

The ECU goes in the glovebox, and I had to make a small notch in the fender for the turbo, no big deal.

I need info about the 20 or so plugs that need to be conected, and the 10 I need to cut out. I was on some other chevy forums and everyone recomended you switch to a mech pump, so I think at's about 10x harder installing a 6.5L

You got any pics of how you fit the 6.5 in, specifically the turbo?

no reason to switch to mechanical in my opinion. the reason people say that is cause the 6.5 has a bad wrap about injection pump failure but really it is the PMD that is getting burned up cause from the factory sits on the pump and is put through alot of heat and vibration making its life short. relocate the PMD off of the injection pump and put it on a heat sync and that will fix that.

check out Diesel Place - Duramax Diesel Discussion Forums (if you havent already) its a chevy diesel forum and has alot of good info on this issue in the 6.5 section.

as for the wiring it is like any other fuel injected engine swap...
connect engine harness, get power to ECU run fuel lines and its mostly done. :meh:

i think you may be over complicating it for yourself.
