I have been looking for a cruiser for quite some time and have stumbled across a '91 80 series with a 4.0L inline 6 that is in my price range. Despite the bullet proof 3FE it does have extremely high KM's (550,000 KM) but has had a major overhaul at the 500K mark which included:

- Top end rebuild (new valves, Magnaflux, machined)
- EGR system deleted (engine breaths much better)
- New injectors (OEM) - New radiator
- New water pump (OEM)
- Transmission hot flush
- Front knuckles rebuilt
- New U-Joints
- New front/rear brakes
- Trail Gear HD steering kit
- Power steering pump
- New battery
- New headlights
- New windshield

I am curious if anyone has any insight about what to look for or what to be concerned about at this stage of this old gal's life? Nice Price or Crack Pipe?

Thank you in advance!

That's a pretty good investment in the truck. If done right, lot's of life added to a long-lived vehicle. The price sounds pretty good to me, but I've never paid more than $7,200 for a Land Cruiser (our current 80 bought used in 2009.) Paid $6,200 for my 76 FJ55 (bought new in 1977.) If it doesn't burn oil, sounds worth a closer look.

A Mud member was asking about a similar truck recently, with similar KM’s and upgrades for $7500 US, so the price is good in comparison.

How is the undercarriage and rust situation looking? Clean title, no major accidents, Carfax report?

How is the rust?

Unless we are talking Canadian dollars, I think it is too high priced. A valve job is not a major overhaul on an engine. The FJ80 just isn't demanding the prices of a FZJ80. I would either be looking at getting a FZJ80 or spending less. JMHO.

I personally would buy either model. However if it was a fj80 I would put a h55f behind it!
