5spd pops out of t3rd (1 Viewer)

My son's 89 4x4 22re w/ 5spd has started popping out of 3rd.
actually it has been gradually getting worse.
now won;t stay in over bumps etc.

What should we look at?
Is this shifter or tranny issue?

The fact that its over bumps makes me think that you may have a loose/broken motor mount and the tranny is moving around and bumping the shifter on the body over bumps.

Just pull the shifter boot and watch it while you drive over some bumps.

Could be the shift forks though. When they wear down you don't get full engagement and "pop-out" is common...
