I don't think the VIN number is stamped on the engine?

I dont think the "VIN" is on the engine itself because the VIN is the Vehicle Identification Number. I think the sequenced number on the engine corresponds with a number in a place on the VIN. Are you simply trying to ID which engine it is you have?

you'll find it on the computer but not on the engine.

Yes sir matt... no vin on the motor, only computer. Some obdII scanners have a VIN finder function, as does tuning software like hptuners and tunercat.
