Hi there!
I am about to acquire a 1977 BJ40 Cruiser and I need some 'insiders info' !
Can anyone give me details of the lay-out of the 4x4 gear stick?... mine is working fine but as there is no sticker or gear knob, there is no info of which is high or low gear!
Also, where would be the best place to get an owner's manual for the 1977 model?
Finally, it has 33" tires, I noticed the front ones have lost some gum due to rubbing against some part on the inside of the wheel arch, any recommendations on how to prevent this ?
Thank you very much in advance, I'm a newbie making the transition from riding a KTM EXC400 off road to a Cruiser !...
:D

What sizeof 33s 9.5 10.5 or 12.5 if they are rubbing it should only be when you turn hard in one direction and it would be hitting the tie rod probably.
You could use spacers on the wheels or get diiferent rims with a better back spacing.
When you say gum are you sure your knuckle seals are not leaking and splattering on the wheels this is common.

If it's only the driver's side, it's probably rubbing the drag link. You could adjust the steering bump stops to prevent this, but you'll hurt your turning radius. If they're narrow 33s, like 33x9.5, a 1/4" spacer could solve the problem.

Gum is rubber.

Yup spacers. I have 33 x 12.5's and 8.5" rims and I have to run a 1" spacer because they rubbed on my TRE's

How about the 4x4 gears, anyone has a pic or diagram to post so i can see what i'm doing ?!?

the link I posted has a photo of the stock plate that has the transfer case shifting directions and shows the pattern of the shifter.
