I am going to pull the trigger on a rear bumper very soon. One option I am considering is @4x4labs rear bumper but without swing outs. It's a personal preference, but when I have had 2 rear bumpers with swing outs and it got to be a pain to unlock/lock every time I wanted to use the hatch. And I use the rear hatch much more now with CY to haul parts around.

That said, I need to store my spare. I have searched and saw some internal carriers, which isn't bad but does take up cargo space. So, how big of a tire will fit on the underside with a 4x4 labs rear bumper? I run 285's currently. does anyone have a pic of what it looks like showing the clearance?

@retrofive from searching, I think you have a luke's non-swing out bumper? Where is your spare?

I just went and looked at mine and there is not much room under there. There is only about 25" between the bumper's tube steel crossmember and the axle. Plenty of width but the front to back length is going to be a problem.

I got the swingout one (holes cut for the spindles), just haven't had the scratch to build the arms. In the meantime a friend built me a swingdown one that goes in the 2" receiver.

 @surfpig :flipoff2:

If you forgo the receiver and support (doing this you will loose strength at the center of the bumper but still much stronger than stock) you have 30" from the bumpers shell to the panhard.

With one of our inside spare mounts you still have 36" of width inside- Just a thought

I used to have a 255/85R16 spare in the stock location with a 4x4Labs rear bumper with no swing outs. Just add 30mm to get an idea? I'd have to dig for a photo though. That's from so long ago.

I really want an @IPOR bolt on, but I have been informed they are not available nor will they be in the near-mid future. Wish I knew why but I don't. So I could go with one of these, but not being able to fit my spare underneath is another strike, the first being that it's not bolt on. Don't get me wrong, it's an awesome bumper and I have helped install two that @davegonz has gotten, so I know how stout they are. It's just my personal preference on what I want in a bumper.

I really just need a rear bumper and true step sliders (search for my other thread) to complete the armor I had planned to do to my 94. Frustrated at this point as I can't seem to find what I want....:bang:

You willing to weld a kit yourself?

I have took off my swing outs and have the spare underneath for the reasons you describe
It is great I have to say. And putting the swing outs on is literally 2 nuts and struts

Possibly. I wasn't planning on it as I don't (yet) have any welding/fab skills. But I have a super nice welder that is ready once I take some classes. I know there is luke's, is there another weld up kit?

You have any pics of your bumper ? How were you able to put your spare under there if there isn't much depth from the crossmember/hitch?

BIOR has step sliders. Also rear bumpers and the best belly pan on the market.

Yea, I have talked to Mike. Unfortunately, he only has 95-97 sliders. The problem is that he is not pleased with how the sliders mount to the 93-94 models due to the cat location/size. This is looking more and more like a custom job locally. I wish JK was still around.....

I haven't inquired about the rear HC bumper and if a 285 would fit on the underside, I'll reach out to him tomorrow.

Here is my DIY bumper. The idea behind the design is to leave the traverse as-is, and just add new side-bumpers. They are made of off a the shelf steel U-profile and flat steel. The benefits are: easy to build and fit, and low weight. Total weight a bit over 20 kilos. And no space is taken.
Swingout is from Luke.
