Some things to consider since there are a lot of options when assembling your own bumpers:
- Do you want to radius any or all sharp corners? If so, make sure you have a couple of pretty good grinders/sanders. I radiused everything and it added quite a bit of time.
- 35’s clear the bumper, but 37’s don’t, so be prepared to trim with 37’s.
- The red handled latch is nice, but I upgraded to the solid metal one which I powder coated with the bumper.
- I did custom hidden stops for my swingouts. Crescent shaped stops that hide completely under the spindles. Very difficult to see, but look under right edge of spindle in pic.
- The area between the bumper and the tailgate doesn’t look great so you can easily weld a section of angle iron to the upper lip of the bumper to hide it.
- TIG welds add a nice touch. But MIG goes a lot faster. I used a combination.
- Most importantly, don’t forget your bottle opener
