So I have been eyeing some Diesel vans lately, however I am not familiar with the 2C-T power plant.. Is there someone here in the diesel section that knows much about these? I have been looking around the interweb but haven't found much info.

thanks in advance..

The C engine have been around for a long time (1940!! according to wiki ) and they were used in dozens of cars ,4wds and small vans like the Townace. I even saw a listing for a high performance 3C version in a Toyota Corolla for the european rally circuit
Also used in Daihatsu Scats before the Rocky came along. They wont be power houses but they were put into light bodied vehicles.
You should take one for a test drive and see for yourself.
Ill say this much , like the L engines, the C engines were reliable without the turbos. I dont know how much the turbo affected the reliability.

I imagine the performance would be ok up to 60-70kph ,then it would die off pretty quick. These little vans are designed for the crowded roads of Asia , not the long high speed freeways we have.
Depends on what you want out of it.

One thing to consider about those vans is that they have a very poor crash rating (compared to other cars of the same years). Around a 1 or 2 star out of 5 if I remember correct. You'd be better off finding a VW van with a swapped in TDI diesel or something along those lines. Really there is not much to gain with these little old IDI diesels. The economy of the 2CT would not be much better than the 4Y engine that came in the north american models. And the 4Y makes more power and will last longer without the potential for a cracked head. If you're dead set on a Toyota van maybe look into the Hiace with the 1KZTE.

Did the hiace come in 4wd?
Yes and in the van versions. I dont know how common they are. There are a few pics of Hiace vans with 4wd on google images

Although this would be my choice. Chassis looks very solid

Yes, but JDM only. There was also a people mover (MPV) with the 1KZ-TE and fulltime 4wd. I can't remember what it is called but I knew a guy who had one.
Was that the 'Super Custom' or something like that?

I used to frequent toyotadieselfot com when is used to own a corolla with a 1c motor which covered that motor.
I think the camrys had the 2c with turbo.
It was good to me. only problem that seemed common was fuel leak from the throttle shaft on the VE type injector pump which I was able to fix without pulling the pump.

Mderrick, if you are after a 4wd van, you may find the Mitsubishi Delica 4wd a bit easier to source. They built a lot of them. Crushers was selling some a while ,back not sure if he still does of if they meet the 25 year rule yet.
Nissan sold a few of their equivalent sized vans with 4wd badged as Fords in Australia but they were rarer than the Toyat Hiace 4wd.

Toyota have an amazing range of stickers that they put onto almost anything to sell vehicles in Japan. Outside of Japan in english speaking countries the stickers are laughable.

If anyone is interesting i have a 2c-t that i like to sell. I was going to drop it into a toyota pick up , but i run into a Bj74 so i bought me that .

Thanks , Marvin

I forgot to mention it comes with automatic tranny complete with accessories evev ac

Thanks
