Hey Gang

Yeah the 4WD lamp on the dash not comin on when I hit the switch, just got the vehicle so not sure how long its been like this. I assume either a dodgy switch or lamp?

Had a look at schematics and as far as i can tell it doesnt really do anythin apart from act as a reminder you're in 4WD, does this sound right?

Cheers for the help

I would assume it is a vacuum switched transfer case, as we have in the 62s.

A common problem occurs when one of the VSV's that switch the vacuum signal fails, leaving the transfer stuck either engaged or disengaged. You should check to see if the transfer case is actually shifting. Make sure the front hubs are unlocked, and check to see if the front drive shaft will rotate freely with the 4x4 switch on and off (might have to drive the truck a few yards to give the transfer a chance to engage). If the shaft is either free or engaged for both tests, you have a problem beyond the light in the dash and sensor in the transfer case.

the switch on the LJ70 is on the transfer case on the right side of the vehicle. Its got two wires to it (a bleck and a red one on mine).

from the reverse light switch and the transfer 4x4 switch, the wires come out and go to 2 plugs above the gearbox - which you'd disconnect when changing a clutch or something. Id check those, and if they are ok id put a wire across them to see if it still works.

if it does your then switch is knackered..

Had that problem once. Decided to change the bulb before getting under the truck. It worked!

;)
