I have a 4+ on the front and rear. Love the build quality and stoutness. I’d love to see how everyone is using theirs, particularly any mods or additions. I’m looking for ideas on how to safe guard my expensive Yeti cooler (or gas cans) without having to remove them all the time. What have you done?

I have front and rear 4+ bumpers and can say, I am NOT impressed with the build quality.

The rear bumpers mounts were not welded in the same position. One side was much higher than the other side making installing it ‘level’ a task.

The front bumper was either warped when welded or welded crooked. I lean towards crooked based on the rear bumper assembly.

I also have the rocker/step. ALL of them have powder coating flaking off...😡

Mine works just fine. Lots of talk about them in the MS forum and they have -0- issues.

You’re legitimately the first person who I’ve heard that wasn’t 100% happy with them. Any chance you called and tried to rectify the situation?

/edit: added photos

Unfortunately, this was 10+ years ago. The unlevel rear bumper was dealt with. The twisted front bumper went unnoticed for years until it was pointed out... then it made sense why it bolted up harder than expected. The twist is subtle, but now that I see it, I see it!

I am not the first to have issues with the powder coating... but again, that reared it’s head years later.

The 4+ gear is on there. I’m not replacing it, I just live with it. Someday I’ll strip all of it and probably just paint them (easy touch up).

Not flush...

The mounting holes had to be wallowed out to make it level. I did not catch this initially and laid/drilled the hole out evenly.

The front twist is very hard to capture on camera. If you look closely, you’ll notice the top is farther away than the bottom.

I have an old school front guard and the rear cooler/jerrycan/tire carrier. No real complaints from me.

Also, there’s my method of securing my cooler, it could still be jacked but they’d have to earn it at least.

i’ve had my 4plus front and rear bumpers on my 62. i’ve loved them but yes the powder coating wasn’t the best. i had them recoated when i have the body on my truck redone. i also swapped out the latch for some locking destaco ones. way better

Can’t forget about the bottle opener mod.

I've got 4+ bumpers front and rear on mine; love them and would buy them again for another truck.

Mods I made to mine:

1. Added grease zerks to the swing-out pivots on the rear.

2. Added a CB antenna mount to the rear basket.

3. Added a license plate light and mounted my rear plate on the rear basket.

4. Drilled holes and mounted my front license plate on the front bumper

As far as security for the rear basket, it hasn't been an issue for me. I don't carry anything in it unless I'm working or on a 4WD trip, and I've never had anything stolen out of it during those times. When I have jerry cans in the basket, I do run a ratchet strap over the top to secure them from bouncing out.

Surprised to hear about the faulty powder coat and misaligned welds.Prior to spraying my bumper with bedliner I put it in a giant rotary table sandblaster with (6) 1" nozzles blasting silicon carbide media and it needed to go through twice to remove all the powder coat.It was super thick and extremely well coated. This was about 8 years ago.Maybe the earlier versions were not coated as well?
I added some tether straps made from crimped SS aircraft cable-this prevents the arms from crashing into the tub.
Also machined a new SS latch and replaced the original locking pin with a pushbutton pin. Both tethered to the bumper with the same SS cable-this prevents loss
Jerry cans are locked in the basket with SS chain inside nylon chafing sleeve-this prevents theft by honest people.

I sprayed Rustoleum on both of my 4+ for ease of touch ups. Did the same thing on my bumpers and sliders on my old Taco and it was a great decision. Good ideas on the tethers, but I’ve used these locking T-Handles on a bumper I previously made and they worked fantastic. Probably going to do the same.

Maybe to you MS means a offroad forum but to Google and most like myself MS has a complete different meaning. Might want to give a little more information on what MS forum you are talking.
Well since mud has a forum section that has Mississippi in it and some folks in that section of mud, noted as MS- cotton land cruiser have those bumpers thought it might lead the poster to answers.
Hope this helps your google answers.

I also did the Zerk fittings and license plate additions. I placed my Zerks on the inside however. If I’d put them on the outside, I guarantee I would’ve knocked them off...

Strange I ended up with two jacked-up bumpers. Maybe early production DID have something to do with it.... and the powder coating...
