I am swamping the 1fz for a 4bt and have various questions.
First I am currently looking at 2 4bts. One has the factory aftercooler which will make the swamp easier but is 2 or 3 inches taller than the regular 4bt so am not sure if it will fit under the hood of the 80 with a 4" lift. The other is about 750$ cheaper but it's not aftercooled so I would have to fit an intercooler which will probably mean changing the radiator.
Any one has experience with aftercoolers? I like the idea of not having to change the radiator. The engine is rated by Cummins at 120 hp just like the intercooled version.
I am also swamping the auto for a NV4500 mated to a split transfercase from an fj60 so there will be nothing requiring electronics. I guess the ABS, cruise control, and all other ECU controlled features will not operate any more or will they? can I hook up some of this things with out having the engine or transmission hooked to the ECU?
I feel pretty comfortable with the fabrication work and with the mechanical part of the work, but I have no experience with electronics. How much trouble can these be? should I really worry about it at all or should I just forget about the ECU all together.
thanks
Fernando
