I plan on doing a FJ45 build and want to run a Cummins 4bt. What would be the best auto tranny to run behind this motor? I am looking for something with an overdrive as this will be driven on the highway as well as off-road.

I was doing a Jeep J2000 project awhile ag and was going to drop in that motor funnly enough , its a tough diesel little motor but you have a weight penalty to start with , theres other forums around that cater for cummins coversions like www.turbodieselregister.com , etc. off memory i think they weigh something like 900lbs and the 6Bt is 1100lbs , those 2 motors are vurtually identical minus 2 cylinders for the 4BT . Plus there are different versions around ( 105 hp - 130 hp ) , the better one is the one with a straight injector pump as its easily modified .

Alot of them started life off in USA postal & Bread turcks , some were airport baggage trucks , etc . Most of them had a Turbo 400 ( GM 3 speed auto ) behind them, the one i nearly bought came with one , easily swap it for the heavy duty TH700 version in 4x4, plus you can mount ZF gearboxs behind them what i hear anyway.

Hopefully i have helped you out a bit
cheers
Rick

I'm planning on going with a 700R4. Note you will need to get it built specially for a diesel because they build more torque at lower RPMs. I talked to bowtieoverdrives.com about my build. (not associated to them). You will also need to get a torque converter for a diesel too.

Go check out http://www.4btswaps.com/forum/index.php It is a new website specifically for the 4bt. A lot of good folks over there.

Good luck and keep us posted.
