no i think the three jaw is just as bad. i ended up using one of these in the end but i had already damaged the edges in a few places Gear Puller Set, 15 Pc. - https://www.harborfreight.com/gear-puller-set-15-pc-62958.html

if you look at the two big black half dishes in that kit they spread the pressure out. even with that you will want to just double check that nothing got pushed along the edges and smooth them out before installing again.

Was having are hard time visualizing how that HF tool worked....you assemble this around the gear, and it sits on those half circle plates? so you get a more even pull with out any extreme contact points from the jaws?

Lol. All good. On the version I bought, the plate s were too chunky and didn’t fit under the gear so....returned that and used a 3 arm puller, but I cut the fingers off and old glove and slipped them over the arms. Protected the gear. Worked great.
