Hi guys after talking with a few 40 series owners In Australia some of them reckon the FJ40's from the 60's in good low km condition are fetching good money..

1963 TOYOTA FJ40 LANDCRUISER WAGON (SWB)

$22,750..

BUT Diesel's did't start in Australia until the 70's..

B 3.0 85 141 lb·ft (191 N·m) 1974–1979
2B 3.2 93 159 lb·ft (216 N·m) 1979–1981
3B 3.4 98 167 lb·ft (226 N·m) 1979–1984
H 3.6 90 151 lb·ft (205 N·m) 1972–1980
2H 4.0 105 177 lb·ft (240 N·m) 1980–1984

So I'm thinking either a LOW km FJ40 and the last of the 80's FJ cruiser's are worth the most and are the most sought after..Like A 1982-84 BJ40 LX..;)

Most Common here in Australia would definitely have to be FJ45 ute's than the HJ45 ute with the 2H diesel's..Also it's getting hard to find rust free HJ47 Troopy's too!!

What do you guys reckon?:):)

FJ28

Oh wait... that not a 40. But still.

...followed by any mid wheel base.

I didn't think Toyota Australia ever imported mid-wheelbase 40-series (or 2B-powered 40-series for that matter)? .....Least - not in any significant numbers if they did at all.

So I'd expect examples of those that appear on the market in Australia to be "used-imports" and "uncommon " ...with matching inflated-vendor-pricing or else "very poor condition".

Anyway... I strongly suggest you simply go for whichever 40-series production-year/model you (personally) like (and can find a good example of at a reasonable price) rather than basing your purchase on any perceived "general desirability" or "resale value".

I know there was a 1963 FJ43 FST for sale on eBay a few years back. Was also on mud before that. I also thought Australia got some BJ42LX models. Been a few pop up here from Australia. Five speed, power steering, A/C and the three wiper blade windshield. Not sure of they had the brown interior. JohnnyC would know, I think he posted a ad from Australia for the LX. I think that one even had the rear fenders flares formed into the tub.

They definitely got the BJ42LX models..

I must say I've always followed the diesels so I wouldn't have noticed FJ43 models..

(So I guess my comment is restricted to mid-wheelbase diesels LOL)

Edit later: I've never considered a BJ42 as "mid-wheelbase" even though the number 42 suggests it's indeed longer than a BJ40.... (I'm pretty sure Toyota Australia never brought in BJ43, BJ44 or BJ46 models.) But I can't really say why I'm drawing my line between short-wheelbase and midwheelbase between 42 and 43 LOL.. (All goes to show we're arguing about trivialities I guess... Ha ha)

Edit later still.... Now that I think about it more ....Australia would have got BJ45 models I bet... Now an HJ47 is definitely designated a long-wheelbase in my books... So ise a wondering now where I draw the line between mid-wheelbase and long-wheelbase.. (and wishing I'd never ever gotten into any discussion about mid-wheelbases)
