Interested....let me ask a question.
Why does the tcase have to be moved down 2"

Put me first in line pending the answer to question

It’s a raised cover but to accomodate H55 5-Speed gearbox, The transfer case bolt patterns needs to be moved down a bit I believe.
The transmission cane is in the same place on the 83/84 inspection cover. The transfer case opening is around a inch further back on the five speed. Other than that they are the same

Going to pass for now. I have orginal BJ42 5 speed shifters and tcase shifters and unclear on the need to shift the tcase opening

The reason the opening is further back is because the boss on the the transmission housing for the transfer case shifter is further back. The overdrive housing moved the transfer case back is the reason for the move. Believe it's only an inch not two. I can measure it

I have the same setup that came with inspection cover and boots. Inspection covers on the right are a five speed on top and four speed on the bottom.

John,

Among other differences, the 40-series raised 5-speed cover sets the transfer cutout 34mm (1-3/8") further to the rear than does the raised 4-speed cover. HTH.

Been years since I measure because when I picked up my 40 series H55F it came inspection cover. When I bought a second 40 series cover it came with the cover as well. I do remember it's under 2". Considered a different 40 series H55F which was installed in a 76 FJ40. That one the lever was bent to reach the four speed opening. I'm as as particular about the transfer case shifter as the stock location the transmission shifter as it's used all the time. In my youth I drove multiple deliver trucks well over one ton. Those had shifter that were pretty much vertical. I definitely prefer the stock angle on the FJ40.

I played around with some 70 series transfer case shift linkage and was able to move it forward enough to use a four speed cover.
