Getting ready to pull the trigger on a family roll cage. I think I've read just about every thread on this site about the advantages/disadvantages, pics, recommendations, etc.

I really like the MetalTech products (and may go that direction) and I have read all the feedback on their cages....good stuff.

Curious to know who runs one of the 4+ cages from Man-A-Fre. And, for those of you who have them, what kind of pros and cons you'd give them.

I also like the cage that Paul Decker puts together, but he says he wants $1800 for one, so I'm checking around (I do like his A pillar mounting on the door jamb).

Thanks guys.... Greg

dont worry Isotel redline is my first choice for a roll cage, but it will be 3 or 4 months til i can order one. yal's cage looks sick and i like the fact its already pre-notched, definitely gonna make my friends welding job much easier

good thinkin BD!!! you won't be disappointed!

Went to redline page, would like some better views of the cages. And info on tube etc... I am guessing by what pics are there, lukebz and isoltel have custom setups.

I am looking for a family cage and tube fenders for my current project.

I put one in my 71 FJ40 last summer and love it. The lines are clean and the mounting plates were formed with correct bends that allowed for an easy install. The one complaint I have is that the kit comes with some pretty weak washers to be used as backing plates. I discarded them and fabbed some steel plates that worked out well. Still plan to tie in to the frame in the future but seems to be pretty stout as is. Hope this helps.

Got my cage from MAF about 5 years ago and still love it. I agree with the washer comment from Chula Vista, but wasn't a big deal at the time. the proper bends in the bottom plates are what really sold me so I didn't tweak my floor pans when i tightened them down. I would buy again if I had to, but man that shipping sucks from CA to MD. I'm sure a lot of other great products are also out on the market now compared to when I bought mine.
Might be a few pics in my sig line.

Chula Vista 71 FJ40 - Thank you for responding....and thanks for the input. Mental note made about the washers.

bmorefj40 - Yes, I can imagine the shipping cost to MD was not a happy thing. Fortunately, I'm in So Cal, so I could just drive down there and have them drop it in. Good to know that you'd buy it again....thanks so much for the input.

Anyone else? Obviously, I'd love any pics if you've got them.......

I've been shopping for and saving pics of cages. The cage on this beautiful rig looks like a 4+plus cage to me. Chula Vista FJ40 could probably verify this.

Sure wish this was my 40!!!!

Hi-jack

That tan one has some of the same characteristics as on my blue 74. Especially the rocker guard pieces. Some of the same paint sceme on the bezel, kick panels ect.. I got it from a guy in Rehoboth Beach Delaware who claimed he got it from someone in AZ. Be neat to know the history. Jeff

CruiserStuff,

I have had my 4+ "Family" cage (Dave Gore built) for 6+ years. I have been very pleased with the overall design and function of this cage. The only negative I can think of would be the "A" hoop, or forward most hoop does slightly block your entry into the cab, not really a big deal, but both LT and Paul Decker's design address this.

My 40 had a "soft" roll onto the passenger side (I was not the driver) and the cage did its job very well, didn't move at all......

If you are ever down in Orange County, and want to see the cage in person, E-mail me or PM.

Here is a link to a couple of pics,
