I've read through the FAQ but need more personal experience- I'm a skeptic of marketing campaigns by manufacturers. I'd like a 4" lift on my '64 but I'd like to stay spring under. I'll be keeping either the 1F or swapping to a 2F engine and carrying 4 passengers (2 Adults & 2 Kids) + camping gear. I'm adding a full interior cage and roof rack. I plan to keep the hard top on during the winter and running a soft top during the summer. I'll also be adding heavy duty bumpers with a winch up front and 2 jerry cans, cooler, and tire in rear. The axles have already been swapped to '76 and shakle reversal is coming soon. This rig will be a daily driver but I do plan to wheel it quite a bit, however, I have no plans to rock crawl. Any recommendations for a comfortable daily ride that has good articulation and handling? Also looking for recommendations on power steering conversions. Specifically the best route to go and top quaility equipment. Thanks in advance.

You'll get lots of opinions and recommendations. I'm really happy with the vastly improved ride, good weight-carrying capacity and all around performance of my Alcan springs. Mine are only 3" lift but they will make them for any amount of lift you want.

Something else to think about, if you run a MAF shackle reversal, or simular, you only need 2.5" springs in the front, 4" on rear. This is due to the length of the front mounting bracket. You need to figure what kind of front shackle reversal kit you want to use, and figure from there. Look thru some of the ROTW threads, lots of good idea's, and variations of equipment, all based on the same vehicle. HTH, Al

I run the Hell Creek 4" SUA on 35s. When the 40 is completely empty and the hard top is removed, it can be a little rough riding. When it is loaded down with gear, dogs etc the ride settles down quite a bit and becomes a little softer.

As for PS conversions, I did the saginaw and have been really happy.

I am running sky jacker 4 in. soft ride springs with shackle reversal up front and extended shackles in the rear. I use the 9 way adjustable shocks as well. When the hard top is off and i am running empty i dial the shocks all the way soft and the ride is nice. When i have the hard top on or a lot of wait in the back i dial the shocks up to 3 or 4 and that really helps.

Totally agree with the above. My experience has been the same. If you cycle the springs through their travel limits, they will smooth out a great deal. The Hell Creeks are a great value.

I have used the TPI 4in lift for at leas 5 years now. It has settled down very nicely. I am running a 71/1F/3sp/33s/. I thought I could just throw in the 4in and be happy. Not so. I had to do the following to be completely satisfied.
Extend brake lines.
Extend drive shafts.
Hunt vibrations

Hunt vibrations
I had a local extend the driveshaft. He didn't know what he was doing which cause me to go mad hunting vibrations. Ordered a DC driveshaft from Tom Woods and a 4 degree shim to point the rear axle at the xfer case. Problem solved. He actually charged less to make a DC driveshaft than the local idiot did to lengthen (mess) mine up. You may not have these problems since many others have done a 4in without any issues, I would just expect the worst. The TPI lift itself has been great, comes with everything you need and I thought it was very good quality. I have a winch up front and the hard top is on all the time. The ride is very good 5 years later and still level (no sag).
