3spd tranny ?s (1 Viewer)

I just purchased a 68' fj40 with three on the tree. when I get it into 3rd it will only go about 30mph. I've had a 78' and 80' with 4 spds and never had any tranny problems. Just want to pick some brains for possible causes. thanks.

It has the dash mount lever and is in the off (2wd) position. Maybe the lever is not working? I'll double check. thanks.

Manually shift it into 2wd under the car first dont trust the dash lever.

It has the dash mount lever and is in the off (2wd) position.

2wd doesn't matter. Just make sure it is in high range and not low. It is the shift lever that attaches to the top of the transfer case.

figured it out. there was a small rock lodged in the linkage. works much better now. thanks for the advice.
