I have slowly been digging into the water pump and thermostat housing on my 91 3fe. I noticed the lower housing appears to be corroded and pitted or something weird. Will these weird pits affect the thermostat, or is it fine to reuse?

It would be nice if you could get it sandblasted, but that's in a perfect world. I would install it, but I would run thermocure and distilled water in the cooling system for a week or 10 days. That stuff will dissolve that and any rust in the system, it's the best stuff ever. I hardly promote a product, but this stuff will exceed your expectations and get your entire cooling system spotless. It's not acidic or anything, it's actually biodegradable.
