Okay, I'm about six hours into ownership of my first FJ, a 1991 80 series.

The most striking issue out the gate is a leaking valve cover, which is pretty damn bad.

In researching, it looks like I'll need the following:

Valve cover gasket
Valve cover bolt grommets
PCV grommet
PCV valve
Possibly heater hoses at back of valve cover

Problem is, after lots of searching (easily the last hour and a half, mixed with a plethora of rabbit holes along the way as I gorge myself on a massive learning curve for this new rig) I still can't seem to find the part numbers for anything but the actual valve cover gasket.

I've built a few Toyotas before and know that in most cases, there's nothing quite like OEM when possible, so I'd like to go back in with factory gaskets, seals, etc when I'm doing a job.

Anyone happen to have the part numbers from the last time you did a valve cover gasket on your rig?

Thanks a lot for the help!

(Let me apologize here- I'm confident this has been covered with the plethora of information available here, but I'm a bit rusty on forums these days.)

Holy crap- thank you!!

I'm just printing that and bringing it to the dealership. Going to do all that and see how it goes. Exhaust gasket is leaking so I'll likely do intake and exhaust manifold gaskets in the next couple weeks; just trying to hammer out the basics and see where it all lands.

Send an email to @beno for parts- onur@landcruiserpartsandconsulting.com

With the money you save over the dealership also order a side cover gasket and pan gasket, and if you are really wanting to punish yourself the timing cover gasket as well. Wait on that one until you fall in love with the truck, or you will set it on fire.

Edit: There are also some other handy manuals here- For Sale - 40, 50, 60, and 80 series FSM for a hell of a price.

Thanks for the lead- I'll touch base with him and see what's up. I have a local dealer where I get really good pricing, but they're a major hassle to deal with.

What are you referencing with the side cover gasket?

I'll be doing the oil pan soon, so I'd just as well go ahead and order that. While I suppose it wouldn't kill me to plan for timing equipment, I need to figure out the shape of the transmission and transfer case before I go too crazy with ordering parts.

You have to remove the distributor to change it and remove the power steering/AC. It is a very common source of leaks, and rarely changed because it is a pain in the keester. Mine was leaking, with oil running down the block past the starter and made it look like a rear main leak, but it was just the side cover. Might as well do plugs and wires when you do it, and have ten feet of vacuum line handy to replace rotten lines. Get it running and figure out what's what, and keep a running parts list. The trans and T-case are really solid, hope all is well for ya

Got it. Thanks for the suggestion. I''ll probably pull the pump and compressor at some point anyway just to clean up everything under there, so I'll plan to have this gasket ready once that job comes up.

I'll dig through that with a bottle of wine tonight. Thanks!

...eventually I'm going to need to stop staying up until 1-2am reading up on this rig...

...maybe when I run out of wine...

congrats on another 3fe buy I've done a total rebuild on mine myself ,you should do all the wrench turning yourself , in the end you'll get to know your 3fe

I’ve been working on cars since I was five. Only things I won’t touch are transmissions and axle gears. I have highly trusted eople for those... and I still do the teardown.

I enjoy the build as much as the wheeling.
