Hi folks,

Been driving my 84 BJ60 for a few weeks now. It has been fairly chilly out averaging about 10-15 C with the occasional -20-25C days. It starts up great, but doesn't seem to warm up all the way according to the guage. It only moves up about an 1/8th of an inch into the white part. Not even a 1/4 of the way up the guage. Even after a 25km drive to work. It makes heat and warms up the truck but I think it could put out hotter air. I don't usually get warm enough to turn the fan down to low. Is this normal for these trucks? I freed up the radiator shutter and pulled it down tonight, we'll see if it makes a difference tomorrow (-20C).

Perhaps my thermostat is stuck open or partially open?

What are others trucks running on the guage?

Check the thermosat... but first cover your rad.

try running it with the heater fan off or on 1(lowest) for the first little while of start up/running. This will eliminate any extra cooling that the heater core is doing. I've got 2 3b's that warm up toasty but you can't crank the heater fan or else you just loose that extra heat through the heater core. An interior car heater is nice too ;)

ummm, are you going by seat of the pants heating feel or the gauge only...
DO NOT TRUST FACTORY GAUGES!! they suck, simple, they just do.

I am going by the guage and seat of the pants feel. I figured the guage is not totally accurate as the engine is of course warming up to some degree. The rad and hoses etc get hot to the touch. It just doesn't move up on the guage a normal amount nor is the heat as hot as other vehicles I have owned...I will see how it is this morning with the radiator shutter pulled down.....

still chilly

Just got in from the morning run to work, temps were the same as usual. The radiator shutter doesn't appear to have made a difference. Perhaps I will change out the thermostat and gasket. I haven't looked at it, but I am sure it is straight forward. I guess I will source it from the dealer, try to keep OE parts on the truck as that is all it appears to have had since new.....

Are other BJ60's making heat in these outside temperatures? Are you guys toasty warm or a little chilly too? (-20C)

Say Wayne, do you own Crushers Rule in Calgary? My truck was serviced there a few times as it is originally a Calgary Truck. Been in Ontario since '03....

Thanks
Eric

Hi Wayne

Here is a pic. I don't really have any good ones yet. The doors were still the original copper brown colour when it was in Calgary. Owned by a couple of members of the Fassina family then a Jim Long. The truck seems to have been really well maintained between you and charleston toyota or something like that.... Just a stock BJ60....nothing really unique to identify it from any others....

Thanks

Eric
