OK, so Toyota can not find this part in their system.
I gave them the part number given here and they tell me that it is an obselte part#.
I look in the SOR catalog (2006) -index under "Tach- Diesel only" states page 802. There is no page 802 in my SOR catalog - I thought maybe it was a typo and checked page 208 - no page 208 either. WTF is going on here??

OK, searched around at SOR.com, I think I found it for $45 - anyone know if any of the jobbers would carry this? Anyone had to replace this before? - I would prefer to go local as UPS kills me shipping across the border.

$45 is a steal if it's Toyota. I was quoted about $75 - 80 when I was looking a few years ago.

Well the only BJ in your sig line is the BJ60. I have seen on here a very nice install of an aftermarket tach in the stock location. Looked very clean.

I would consider doing that with a diesel tach hooked to the alternator....

the 1983 Bj 60 i am parting out has a good working tach in it....but i would have no idea what is involved with taking the sender and stuff needed out of the truck.....and it way to Fawking cold to be crawling under the truck until the spring....

-20 celsius this morning and 28" of snow

But it will be available at some time....what's it worth to you

Best Regards

Gord

i installed an autometer in the stock location, and it works great. Absolutely no problems so far. I calibrated it myslef to idle to is not absolutely exact but close enough for now. Install took no more than an hour. I do have the pics somewhere on my comp so i can email them out to anyone interested. just let me know!

Here is VTcruisers pictures.

I think it is a super clean install.

Hmm, that is a 24V system, is there an equivalent for the 12V systems or is the tach only running 12V? - super clean install though - I like it!

hmm, I emailed autometer a couple days ago about their diesel tach (p/n 3788) http://www.autometer.com/cat_gaugedetail.aspx?gid=3331&sid=11

looks to be the same as the one above, only the silver version....

I wasn't sure about the " small inductive probe " that gets strapped to the alternator, whether it sends power to the tach or senses rpm, and if it would work on a 24v alternator.

the guy from autometer replied but was sorta clear as mud....well here , see what you make of it......

"Thank you for your interest in Auto Meter Products. First of the tach
has to be powered by a 12 volt power source. It will not operate on 24
volts, it will burn the tach up. The sender will send a signal to the
tach on a 24 volt alternator.

Thanks again,

I emailed back for clarification, because I can't tell if he's saying it'll burn up because the sender is on a 24v alternator, or if it would burn up because it would be in a 24v system( when of course it'd be fed 12v from a converter.)

cheers,
ryan

As i understand it, the tach needs 12v, but it doesn't matter if the sender is on a 12v or 24v alt. Mine has been working on the 24v alt with no problems.

I concur

back to top with this.. Are you noticing with that tach at night that the "lighting" is slightly different than the stock gauges? Trying to do a really clean tach install in a FJ62, to make it appear stock..

Yes, the autometer is a white light versus the OE green. It may be possible for the bulb to be changed/modified to be made green if you feel compelled.

well the weather is finally starting to get a little better..snow is almost all gone and i can find the BJ 60 that has the working tach still in it...if you want it make me an reasonable offer ...

Cool, I actually remember a green bulb tint that came with my autometer gauges, and I am pretty sure I specifically recall for that gauge as well. I have some left over if you want one and you want it to match! A
