I'm dropping a 1990 3B into my '63 FJ40 and need to ID where 3 of the water hoses go from the block. 2 are on top next to the valve cover, I would think they would go to the heater, but there is 1 on the block left rear under the intake manifold ?.

PS: The original F engine died with 400,028 miles on it.

Welcome to the diesel section.

Yah the top two are for sure heater hose ones. Not sure on the 3rd. I'll have a look at my 3b.

So it's a 1990? Wow you got a late model one. So does it have a inline fuel injection pump or a rotary?

So where did you end up finding this engine?

Cheers!

Thanks.
It has the rotary pump. It's NATO spec (24V). Came with 5 speed and split transfer case. Marv at SOR found it while on a OZ trip.

Awesome, are you going to keep it 24 volts or use 12 volt components? Should be easy to find the 12 volt stuff.

I'm keeping it 24V as my wifes military vehicle is 24V and we have collected quite a bit of 24V "stuff" over the years. Also it starts better in the cold weather.

I just looked, yup I have this third hook up too. It goes to the heater control valve. I'm not sure how it all goes.

I need to see a schematic diagram of the heater system.

Do you have the rear heater? I think I've narrowed it down to a few of the choices on the Toyota EPC.

Please do. I have the same issue on my 13B-T install in the link below. Mine's a little different because the lines are on the other side of the block, but I need to know which one to cap off.

My thoughts:
On mine I think the head one is the hot out, then the top of the water pump is also a hot out. I think the third is the return, which goes to the lower hose of the water pump. No idea which powers the front heater, but I would imagine it would have been off the head just because it would get hotter faster.

I think I've got it now. I found a match in the Toyota EPC from your answers.
The water connection at the rear goes the inlet of the valve. The outlet of the valve goes to one side of the front heater. The other side of the heater (return) connects to the larger of the connections on the top. With the rear heater, the smaller connection goes to the rear heater and the return line is "T" into the return line going to the larger top connection. There does not seem to be a valve for the rear heater, (unless it inside the cab?) I'll try to get the drawing from the EPC scanned in tomorrow and post it.

Well, I finally found the one for a BJ74 in my EPC....it was under the electrical section. Not that it makes sense there....but anyway.
On the 13B-T (yours is different but similar)
The lower front feed which comes off the water pump runs to the heater valve on the firewall. This is your supply.
The return is the one on the top of the water pump....OR the head.
Mine shows the head as the return for the rear heater.

Looking at my 1985 3B in my 80 BJ40, I have a rad hose on top going to the left side of the rad, rad hose on the bottom going to the right. the hose at the back of the head goes to the inlet of the heater control valve, which goes thru the firewall and tees into both the front and rear heater. Coming out of both heaters, the outlets tee together again, before they come thru the firewall, up the left side of the valve cover, where it crosses over and into a port on the water pump. There is a short 4 inch hose from the same housing on the pump to the thermostat housing.
