3B diesel has a Prob. please help Gurus

My truck in the last few days has started having a severe hesitation just off idle not really noticable on the flat but trying to stop and start on a hill is a real buggar.

Things I have tried to remedy this

1) changed fuel filter
2)new air cleaner
3) emtied water seperator
4) diesel additive

next things I'm thinking was injectors or Pump But it is not sputtering or anything just has a real flat spot so I'm thinking it maybe something else, the best way to describe is that it feels the same when you are trying to start on a hill towing some weight. Anything to look for drivetrain wise??
 
Bad fuel?
Did it start doing this after a recent fill up?
You also said you emptied your water separator.
How much water was there?

How many KM's on the engine?
 
My girlfriends 3B was doing the lack of power thing.
Ended up being a pine needle in the fuel line.

If it's not bad fuel you could try cleaning out the fuel line.
Maybe there is a piece of dirt (or something else) stuck which is resticting the flow.
 
You might want to change the diapragm on the injection pump if that has not been done recently.
 
changed the fuel also forgot to say that

there was little to no water in the seperator

and the truck only has 150,000 Kms

ah about the diaphram I don't think it's ever been changed. how much work is it??
I think the prev. owner even left one in a box in the glove compartment.

are these the usual effects of a cracked diaphram?? um the other thing I noticed is that it does not wanna go the same top speed it usually does Help me.
 
Chances are it will not be the Diaphram, the diaphram will smoke when gearing down, and at extreme cases at idleing. maybe it could be the rod that attaches to your EDIC. This can be adjusted for starting and stoping. How about your throttle knob, is it pushed to far in?

as above..check the linkage carefully.

inspect the edic position to make sure it is in the run spot. I posted on here the degrees in a picture once. But if you have manual it will show it.

Ensure the butterfly opens fully when you are foot to the floor.

Also if you are bleeding air into the system it will make it run crappy. you can use clear line on the return section I think to see if bubbles are flowing back into the system.

You have bleed it at the injectors too eh? While running crack the fuel line nut on the injector a half turn and bleed out the diesel, with air maybe. When the air bubbles stop coming out you can tighten it back up. Do each injector individually.

Did the problem happen all of a suddden, then you did all that maintenance? or did the problem happen after you did the maintenance.

Try to think of when it started.

If you do not know of when or if the fuel nozzles have been serviced, you could get that done. At 150k its due for sure.

try cleaning the strainer on the inlet of the priming pump! and double check the throttle linkage near the intake manifold for adjustment nut looseness on the cable on the valve cover.

If the problem start after the service ( I thought included fuel filter replacement ) check if it are properly tight .. and check for air leaks ..

How much time/cost is involved in changing the diaphram? what is the diaphram made of? will biodiesel affect it?

Time is 45min for a pro, 3hours for a beginner. Cost is ~$100 from dealer ~$20 from an injection place. Made of leather which is biodiesel safe.

mow this depends if the "pro" has fat fingers or not... i have done it in 45 mins and the next one can take me 3 hours.
one of the signs of a dead diaphram is an increase of idle speed over time, the mor eit is ripped the higher the idle...

doesn't sound like the problem, I would also think like said before, air leak or bad fuel.

Fixed it it ended up being the HAC needed adjusting once. I learned how to do that it took me like 15 mins. to fix, thanks for the help guys
 
An acronym for: High Altitude Compensator

Some models got it, while others didn't.
