3B (13B) in a 55?

Hello.

Earlier this year I bought a Fj-55 Cruiser and have been working on it now and then (mostly then I´m afraid) but want to get the beast roadworthy soon, it has a 302 ford engine and toyota driveline and axles.

Well as you can see it has 44" tires (I use it for driving in snow), Recently I found a rebuilt 3B engine I can have for very little (and as gas is 8$ a gallon here in Iceland and the usual weekend glaciar trip takes about 50 gallons+ with a V8) I was wondering swapping the V8 for the 3B, just wanted to know if I can use the same gearbox etc. and if the old 3B can haul this truck (with a turbo)?

any feedback appreciated :)

Ps. I drive a 38" toyota pickup too with a 3L turbo engine, so I´m used to somewhat lazy engines :P

hi,
nice looking beast you have there!:) put it on a iceberg and push it towards canada(lol)!:grinpimp: input shaft is different on the 3B than the 2F! it can be swapped but other's say switch trannies and put the one that comes with the 3B.

yea I´m going to see if I can get the box with the engine.

by the way I´m running 4.88 ratios, will cruising speed be an issue with the 3B and 3B(?) gearbox?

Hello, I recomended tu put R&P 4,88:1 or upper like a 5,38:1 if you want to move the 44" nicely.

The toyota driveline and axles are 100% for the 3B. But, is recomended to put a turbo if you want to get a good performance.

My experience, is a 3B on a FJ70 with 35" an R&P 3,7:1.... now a swaping to 4,56:1 to get a good performance.

Cheers.....

My girl friend has a 3B powered 55.
Her and her dad made it.

Its a 3B (turbo) to a H41 to the transfercase (t-case off a older 3speed I think).
Her dad is on the forum (cruiser_guy).
He would be the one to ask.

So while I can't give you the exact in and outs of what needs to be done.
It can be done.

Cheers,
Nick

Also, would a 2H+gearbox+T-case fit in a 55? are there any problems with the driveshafts?
I may also be able to find an old 60 series around here with either 2H or 12H-T would that be a easier swap?

I thought 5.29 R&P if you have rear full floater minimum to move properly those 44" plus a turbo in the 3B ..

12H-T would be nice for this swap ..

Not totally correct. It has an H42 tranny. three speed transfer and currently 3.7 gears. It needs to have the turbo and fuel set up still. It has a Volvo turbo.

Nice truck,
Looks like they used the 302 and the front suspention out of a Bronco. Zooming in it looks like Bronco control arms and springs. I had 38's on mine at one point with the 4.11 and a 2B it wasn't fast but it it had enough power offroad. The truck should be fine with the regear and a turbo on the 3b.

3b is slooow. Really steep gears for sure with 44. Are you running at sea level or slightly above. The 3B really gets moore slow at altitude. Turbo for sure.

But the 3b is tough and can handle a beating.

Where in Iceland are you? I spent 10 days in Reykjavík one christmas. Went to Blue lagoon tiwce. Loved it. Also the fireworks on new years are flipping amazing! you guys know how to party..

But you are more than over priced for almost everything. Good thing the salaries are high :)

For anyone who want to travel I highly recommend iceland for a great destination. Even if you only see the very modern clean city.

it has a turbocharged 3L engine, 5.29 ratios disc locker in front and lsd in rear, spring suspension (nissan partol in front and 3 link rear) 2 fuel tanks (130L) CB, GPS, VHF etc.etc. :)

anywho, would a 2H with a H55f box and transfercase from a Lc-60 be a good fit in the 55?

when I started looking they were all over the place :P
