My tires are 12 years old on my LX470 and I am debating whether to do 35s or not. I like how it drives on the highway with michelin defenders. I would love to make it more offroad friendly but dont want to lose highway manners. Also I have a spare set of 17" rock warriors I was saving for my 2nd 200. Right now I have 16" lx wheels and have 1.5" ARB suspension.

Any advice appreciated.

What size tyre are you running now?

I went from well used 285/75/16 on a 7.5(?) inch rim to 315/75/16 on a 10 inch rim a few weeks ago. The 315/75 looked awesome IMO

In fairness the 315/75s were unevenly worn from an alignment issue on the donor vehicle.... but I lasted about 1.5 kms on the open road before I turned around, drove back to the shed and changed the wheels and tyres back to the smaller size.

The vehicle was all over the road on the 315s.

Fresh tyres, a better suited wheel offset and an alignment would have improved things for the 315s for sure, but the road manners on the set of wheels I borrowed were appalling and probably dangerous.

With a disappointed face I ordered a set of Maxxis 285/75R16s that day (instead of the 315/75)... and I'm happy with how it drives.

I have 265/75 R16 currently. It drives nice but once in awhile I get fever for something extreme. I prefer skinny tires over wider. My current tires look too small for lifted LX470 but handling is good. I end up driving 120+ mph on highway without looking at speedometer.

I haven't watched the video but it may be helpful..... but if you're keen on massive tyres (and who isn't!) then perhaps have two sets of wheels?

Throw some 285/75r17s on your rock warriors!

There are a lot of threads here on 35s.

Uncle Jake has an SA 105, it can run 35s without any issue really.

Your vehicle is IFS. If it's simply for appearances you can do it with some modification. If it's for actual function you'll break CVs, turn radius will suffer, you'll reduce articulation...

If you're going to be at elevation you'll want to regear, etc. It's going to be slow. But YMMV and maybe it's worth it to you.

I am more function than form. If its going to break components I wont do it. I had a friend tell me its an easy bolt on upgrade that doesn't require any modifications on the 100. He had it and loved it.

If you like tall skinnies then 18s are where its at. Pick up a set of Tundra Steelies or Tundra take-offs and run a 285/75/18. I run that size in a Toyo MT and its 35.2X11.6. It shouldn't be a problem to fit them and because they are relatively skinny wear is reduced. 295/70/18 and 35x11.50r18 are also good sizes.

I've ran stockers, 275/70/18s, 285/75/18s and now 35x12.5x18s. I liked the 275s and 285s the best.

33-34 is the sweet spot, IMO. Assuming you stick to the OEM wheels from a 100/200/tundra, a 33~34" tire requires little to no mods and looks plenty beefy.

35 gets you a little extra tire, but you start down the path of diminishing returns. Worth it if you're off-road a ton, maybe not so much if you're a more typical mixed use owner.

I found a local set of 2014 tundras with michelins ltx a/s but they are 255/70/18 with black tundra 5 spoke wheels. According to discount tire its a 32" tire. Currently I like my silver lexus wheels prettier but they have all types of weights added. New tires will run $1k, this set which is more than 85% left is $400.

IMO 255/85/16 is the ideal size for 100 series IFS. You get 33" tire with minimum weight increase, reducing stress on components but still providing improvements offroad.

ST MAXX in this size if you're doing lots of highway
KM3 seems to make sense if you're mostly off-road
I think Toyo makes the M88 as well in this size

Running this size - no need to regear, trim fenders, mess with suspension etc.

Will smaller tires accelerate faster? My 100 with 32" michelin ltx drives much faster than my 200 with 33" ko2s. There is a highway next to my house that I floor to jump on and repeatedly get my 100 to 125mph without thinking/looking. Usually let my foot off the gas pedal when I see 125 otherwise it doesn't feel like I'm going that fast.

I see that michelin defenders come in 285 75 R16 (my old ones are 265) makes it an 1.2" taller, im already 6'8." Height wise I'm happy.
