Hi TLC fellows!!!...I am new on this foro....I own a BJ 74 and I'd like to know experiences with 35" tires..or even bigger!....an Old Man Emu 2 inches lift kitwell be installed.....Will it suffer w 35"?

Use the search feature in this forum and you will find many 35s or 315s installed.

Yes, the OME suspension works fine.

You need to move the front axle forward about 20mm.

The longer shackles are better than the shorter ones (GS1 vs GS2).

OME springs (rear) marked "A" have 20mm more arch than ones marked "B."

Suffer? Depends on what you're going to do with it.

You should re-gear to 4.56 at least.

my bj 74 with 35's does not suffer, even on Colorado mtn. passes

My 87 BJ74 does just fine with 35x12.50x15 tires. I can run up and down the mountain passes where I live, and it does great. I can do 70 mph and am turning maybe 2400 rpm's which helps me get 25/26 miles per gallon on the highway! U may want to adjust speedo gearing for accuracy ; mine is off maybe 15% and i use a Garmin gps unit for knowing the real speed I am at. I will never go back to anything smaller on this rig-love it with 35's and stock gearing. My truck has only 138500 kms total, and pulls like a new rig, all day long!

I would love to run 35s but I would want skinnier tires.
Saw a set of 255 bfg muds on a truck today and I figure that size rocks.
I would love to get a 35 x 10.5 or 11 wide. too bad I can't find that tire size
Scrapping the 77 idea and I am going for a shortie HZJ73:)

Not exactly a BFG mud, but Swamper makes an SSR in 35x10.5. They look great on a 74.

Dont forget the speedo correction. GregB. had a few made and they work great. I measured my speed at 100km/h with my GPS and it was BANG-ON.

I dont have a pic right now. Greg_B had a few speedo correction kits made for some of us . It mounts on the speedo cable output on the tranfer case. It is a little mechanical box that consists of a couple of gears. Very Secret Ratios LOL. Works Perfect! Thanks Greg_B !

This thread is neat, gotta lot of info just now. Have to say, on my 33" & 4.111 the Cruza feels quite sweet. Yeah running at 100kmh it has enough power for hills etc. Fiitng 35" would ruin the Low Range though IMO.
Currently 16% under reading according to GPS. Have a guy here in ZA that build that mech boxes aswell as for the electric speedo's, will found out more and let you know aswell. I think exporting to you could be a bargain !

I have a 1:08 to 1 hi -range

Contact this fella here: http://www.canwesttach.com/

He has supplied a number of ratio adapters (screw onto the t-case speedo output) for me over the years. Most ratio adapters have been a one shot deal, but I have had one I had to send back a couple times to fine tune, so closer is better. As prado_t mentioned, we just had three made up for three of us on the west coast who are running 315's and Marks 1:08-3:05 t-case gears.

He was great to deal with, and tell him the Landcruser guy from Abby sent you.

What do you think of these transfer gears?

Any problems?

Easy install?

Do you find them too noisy, as some do?

Question not directed at me, however hope this helps and perhaps others who have the t-case gears can speak to their experience as well.

I like them.

No problems.

Don't know, as a bud installed them for me. I like that they are tapered bearings. Only long term will see about longevity, vs the stock way. Perhaps prado_t or GlennBJ74 will speak up as I think they installed their own.

Yes, there is a whine. It has dissipated over time, and it also got better when I started running syth gear oil with Molyslip G MTS « Molyslip Canada Inc. :: Molybdenum Lubricants, Performance Lubricants, Copaslip Anti-Seize, EP2 Grease, Wear Reducing Lubricants, Oil Additive

They are noisy, but a small price to pay when you have braking control going down close to vertical slopes.

Mine were put in 3 years ago . I am going deaf or they are quieter now. LOL. If you like to 4 wheel the noise (whine) is a small price to pay. As Greg_B suggests there is the lubricant above that keeps it to a dull roar.
