I have a stock 80 but have a 2.5 ome kit waiting to be installed.

I also have a set of 35/12.5/17 general grabber reds sitting around.

My question is will the tires fit without rubbing with a proper wheel? If so what is that wheel? Or better yet what is the correct offset of a 17 that will allow the tire to fit.

Or do I have to get a 315/75/16 on stocks to have close to a 35?

Thanks.

FWIW, I have OME 2.5, 35x12.5x15 on 15x8 wheels with -19mm offset (3.75" backspace). Never rubbed, stock bumpstops and panhards.

Good to know. You are not using a spacer then I take it?

Good chance you will rub on 37s if you wheel it. I am on 4+1 lift and went to 37s this spring. I pulled off my wheel spacers that I ran with my 315s, and I added another inch of bump stop in the rear, as I was hitting the rear edge of the fender well. So far, so good. My rear adjustable panhard rod is set at darn hear stock setting so that the inside of the tires just kiss the inside of the fender, and they just barely clear the outside fender lip and flair. No wheel spacers.

I should mention that, although I've never done it, it looks to me like, were I to HEAVILY load my truck so as to compress both rear springs equally, at a certain load the outsides of both tires would likely not clear the outside of their wheel wells and would rub the body. In other words, the axle+wheel+tires are a tad too wide, but it's fine as long as you stuff only one tire per axle at a time, if you know what I mean. In fact, it might be that larger overall width that allows for the upper, inside edge of each (independently stuffed) tire to escape rubbing on the inside of the wheel well.

How long is a piece of string?

Lots of things come into play, like allowed travel. If your just running the regular/short shocks, travel is limited, making fitting 35"s pretty easy. If you step up to "L" shocks, then space them to take advantage of their full travel, it becomes more tricky. ,,, Etc.

If you just want to have a  looking rig on 35"s, pretty easy. If you want to make a wheeler, "tune" it to get the most out of the suspension, etc, it takes a bit more work, but pays on the trail.

Well lets put it this way, I would love to have the ultimate wheeler and buy the coolest stuff. Bottom line I don't have extensive funds, so my cheap 2.5 lift and free 35's is what I have to work with FOR NOW. I just don't want to buy some 17's if the 35's will rub. I'd rather stick with my 285's

They WILL rub. Not much and only at full stuff when using stock wheels. Minor trimming and grinding will address it. I am running 315s on a 2.5" lift with some moderate wheeling and I am very happy with what I have. Some day, after I have taken care of the other major deficiencies with the rig I will step up to the Slee 4".
