Thinking of going from 33 x 12.5 x15 to 33 x 10.5 x 15
Anyone has experience of skinny tires, I am in northern Alberta and 80 has 3" lift. I do occasional offroading and its my daily.

Skinny tires are good when you need to dig through a top layer of mud or snow to get traction underneath.

They are not good when the mud or snow is so deep that you end up high centered on the dif.

They really suck in sand, but I don't imagine you have much sand in northern Alberta...

I ran 33x9.5’s on my FJ80 back in the day loved it. Way better than wide tires.

One thing to consider, regarding @leonard_nemoy ‘s comment. While I personally don’t disagree, it’s pretty telling that most vehicles in desert countries run skinny tires. I don't think Americas obsession with wide tires passes over into reality/real world situations.

That's exactly is my point.. have done some research and skinny is supposedly the way to go. Does anyone have pic of 33 skinny on 80

I love that tire size. Do it!

Search for ‘255/85R16’ and ‘pizza cutters’ in the forums and you’ll find quite a few pics. When my 315’s wear out I’m going back to something skinnier. Better all around in my experience.

It's simple physics, pounds per square inch in the sand is what matters. Wider tires equals less pounds per square inch. Same thing applies to deep snow and tundra bogs.

I hear you. I’ve just had better results with skinnies than fatties. And you don’t see wide tires in most desert settings, aside from the US.

I'd also consider the difference based on your wheel width. Matching the wheel width to the tire manufacture's wheel width can be a very good thing. Helps with more even tread wear.

I haven't done a lot of wide vs skinny testing, but I suspect a lot of people don't take full benefit of larger tires (taller and/or wider), and would be fine with something closer to stock size. That said, a number here also probably do use every bit of the tire, so it's a mixed bag.

For me, with a taller tire I'd generally want to re-gear. The difference in handling just over the weight of tire is substantial. You may not notice it on the highway, but if you have serious potholes or washboard, it can be the difference between tolerable and miserable.
