All-

Just picked up a '78 last week; has stock suspension with some non-OEM wheels. Going to upgrade to OEM 15" steelies and wanted to go with 33 x 10.50 BFG AT K02s.

Will this size tire fit on a stock suspension setup?

Thanks in advance!

I’m gonna say no. I’ve got the setup your talking about. Did a 2.5” shackle lift from ccot.

Mine on stock setup and extended rear shackles..... as well as PO hacked rear fenders (which does give some room)
No issues with rubbing but I do no heavy off-roading - A 2.5 suspension lift would likely be the better choice!

31x10.5 will fit on a stock setup but it is tight, may rub a bit on the folded under lip of the rear quarter panel in the rear well. If your fenders have been cut you will be fine.

It’s not so much HEIGHT as width that’s an issue - a 31 or 32 by 9.5 will tuck up into the wheel well and not rub the rear quarter. This is one of the reasons I went to 16” wheels - so I could get 7.5R16 tires (roughly 32x8 on a 16 inch wheel). Really it didn’t matter because my fenders are already trimmed - but I like the look. Tires under 10.5” wide are no longer available at a 15” rim size. Before I got my 7.5R16 KM3’s I ran 31x10.5R15 cooper discovers and had no issues - but as I mentioned, my rear fenders are cut.

33x10.5 will fit OK with a 2” lift kit. You still may rub the rear wheel wells if you flex it. I would do a spring lift, lifts at the shackle only give you 1/2 the height per extra shackle length (ie: to lift it 2” your shackles must be 4” longer than stock). Long shackles aren’t great for ride quality.

Street only use yes, off road no. As stated above they will rub, steering linkage , front inner fender, rear inner fender sides and tops.

Same situation with lifted springs if the bump stops are not longer than OEM.

But I think that 33x10.50 would fit, it’s almost the same size than the biggest original option 9.00-15 (33x9.50).

I’ve got 33’s on steelies with a 2” OME suspension with plenty of room, never have rubbed. I do get it dirty a couple of times a year and had to add 1/4” wheel spacers because the DS tire was tearing up the TRE boot on the steering link at full turn.

Thanks for the feedback all; sounds is if best not to go this route for stock suspension setup (my fenders aren't cut) as I'd prefer to minimize any rubbing.
