A couple questions..

Can this size be mounted without a lift?

Is hard to get someone to mount the on OEM rims?

I am trying to decide between 33, 31 or 235/75

Yes they will fit but without some kind of lift they are close to fender. There are places that will mount them, just call around.

Another with OME 2.5" ... my local Toyota Service mounted w/out questions. Rims (black) and hubcaps still available.

31’s with a stock suspension all day long, I’m on 33’s with the OME 2 now and like the setup

31x10.50 no lift on 40 year old stock springs.

To answer your question, 33 x 10.50s will squeeze in without a lift. However, any amount of suspension travel can or will rub on steering components and fenders. I wouldn’t recommend it.

I’ve never had an issue with that size being mounted on stock wheels.

Thanks for all the input. So, 31s are a better option without a lift. Do 31s have any issues with rubbing?

Has not been an issue for me personally, however I understand even with stock suspension and 31’s depending on tire brand (slight variance from one brand to the next) wheel choice, load, articulation and spring condition there can. Seems I read here that on a few original 40’s you can see the slightest flaring on the rear fenders where this has happened.

I like 31’s on stock height, I may go to 33’s or 16” equivalent and an OME lift in the future, I feel those are the best 2 stockish combinations.

How about rubbing when turning or the rear fenders? I am looking at those tires. I feel like the 33 gives you an option for a lift down the road.

@desmocruiser

Is there much effort to steer (while stopped) or did you install power steering? I'm thinking about the :princess: and arm strength :hmm:

I’ve run 31x20.5, 33x12.5, 33x10.5 all with manual steering. 12.5 were heavy to steer... 10.5 BFG ATs are easy to steer.

It is noticable, but I am not particularly bothered by the effort to steer with the 10.50's and no PS.

However if/when I do the lift I am contemplating going to the City Racer 16" wheel. For 2 bonus reasons:

Slightly easier steering with more narrow tire selections and I like the profile better in the 16" rim in ~33" tires.

9.50's easier and were the perfect FJ40 tire, unfortunately no longer offered.

I'm considering the 30 inch 9.5's, which are available. I'm keeping my truck stock, but not too wimpy of tires..

I think the 30x9.5-15 G003 Mud Terrain are a great small tire with a tread pattern that doesn't look wimpy. I know its probably a good idea, but I don't like the look of a 40 with a highway tire.

Not the 30x9.5 tire, but a good profile of the style.
