Hi friends - Was thinking of 285/65/18 based on the forums. But given my driving should I just match my spare - 275/60/18? Cost not an issue. No plans for serious offroad. Hauls dirt bikes to the SVRAs. 2004 LX470.

Thanks in advance.

275/65's are the best alternative to stock if you don't necessarily want/need to upsize. 275/70 is a bit taller than the 285/65 and more cost effective. Get 5 and do a 5 tire rotation. Lower pressure in sand.

I wouldn’t let the spare tire guide my decision, get the tires you want. 285/65 and 275/70 are both great options. Since you tow, be sure the larger spare doesn’t impact your ability to use the hitch.

I'm in the exact same spot, trying to decide between 285/65/18 vs 275/70/18 on my stock 06 LX with AHC. I think my ideal size would be 285/70/17 if I could find a great looking wheel (black, gold, or gun metal) with a machined, imitation beadlock lip, that wouldn't require spacers or other modifications to fit with the AHC.

From reading through a lot forum threads, it seems like the majority of 100 series owners recommend the 275/70/18, but I saw that size on another stock cruiser a few months ago, and thought it looked a bit goofy in person. The 275/70/18 looks great if the truck is lifted 1.5' - 2.0', but I'm riding stock and don't have plans on getting rid of the AHC anytime soon.

I also like the look of tires that line up closer to the outside fender wall and I don't know which tire will do that better between the 285/65/18 and 275/70/18...maybe neither? I imagine the 275/70/18 tires will line up exactly the same as the stock tires (275/60/18), which I don't really like, but I don't know if the 285/65 will line up much better either. If I had to add 1.25" Slee spacers, would it push the 285/65/18 tires past the fender wall, would it put the 275/70/18 too close to the fender wall?

My vote is for stock based on your 95/5% split between city roads and some dirt.

Based on what you've said I wouldn't go to a 285/75. My spare is a 275 and it is smashed up against the trailer hitch, no way a 285/75 would fit up there (I'm about to build a bumper with a swingout to fix this issue). If you aren't doing anything besides FS roads I'd just get a all terrain tire in the 31 to 32" range.....I am no tire expert though.

I have the 275/65 R18 and think it about the perfect all-around size for the LC. I'm mostly street/highway use with some gravel/dirt roads. I've looked into the 285/65 R18s, but decided that for my use I didn't need all that extra weight.

If you want bigger go 275 70r18. I love this size. Better turning radius than a 285 width tire

275/65r18 Falken AT3W on my ‘04 LX and I’m pleased. I’m mostly city and highway with some gravel and forest roads on weekends when time allows. Maybe a couple times a year on some roads/trails where our Subaru wouldn’t make it. The extra sidewall is appreciated especially on DC roads with a lot of potholes and patches. I use the through-the-bumper hitch so I don’t know if I could go to a 70 series and still fit the spare.

Even stock, I'd say the 275/70s are the minimum to look decent, otherwise it ends up looking like a shopping cart. With your use make sure you get D rated, not E rated though.

I'd definitely not go 31". The 100 looks much better with a 32-33" tire, IMO. A 32.4" tire is still on the smaller side for the crowd on here. I say go with that.

Personally, I like the huge tires with AHC in low. Low rider off roader, haha.
