    Will a 3spd tranny hold up behind a 4.3?

Here's what I'm thinkin'... (inspired by a thread on PBB)

Budget buggy, 4.3 TBI, 3 spd tranny, SM465, NP 205...

The 465 will perform the regular shifting duties. The 3pd will be used like a range box or underdrive in front of the 465.

Looking for pros and cons and don't want to overlook anything.

    What do you think?

i've read abit about dual trannies, and i was told that the front tranny (closest to the engine) should recieve shifting duties, as the inertia of the first tranny spinning may make shifting the rear one difficult

Yes, the SM465 is hard enough to shift by itself. Put a large rotating mass in front of it and the synchro gears would never be able to slow the input shaft down enough to shift. And as a doubler, the SM465 would truly suck

1> that's a LOTTA weight in the drivetrain...
2> the Toy 3-speed isn't exactly famous for strength....start binding things up when in stupid low, and you'll be practicing your tranny replacements too

and, add enough custom adapters together, plus all the shaft machining costs, and you'll likely price yourself pretty high...

i love the idea of reverse reverse low range, super low forward gear

or reverse one tranny, then you got 4 reverse gears :D
