3-B Starter Problems

Hi guys... Just a question about the starter on my 3B - lately in the mornings the starter just spins, and won't start the truck. It takes a few tries before it turns the engine over. Are these known to come loose, or is there something else that may cause this? I haven't had the time to take a close look at it... any suggestions? Thanks

Sounds like your bendix gear is not popping out to engage the flywheel. I'm thinking you need a new plunger thingy. If you read this thread:

You'll find a lot of helpful info. Not sure if the eBay link in there still works but if you search eBay for "Toyota 3B" I bet you'll find that kit. My symptoms were different, but I think that kit will help you too as it has the plunger thingy. The kit worked great--parts seemed more robust than what I removed.
