2nd gen tailgate regulator in 1st gen 4runner (1 Viewer)

Does anyone happen to know if a 2nd gen 4Runner tailgate regulator will work in a 1st gen? From what I can see the mechanisms appear to be identical, the only difference that I can see is that the second gen has one longer rod for the lock mechanism, but it appears that could be modified. If anyone has tried this I would love to hear about it. My buddy has a 1st gen that needs a new rear regulator and the only local one we can find is from a 2nd gen.

Well Ian, get it, try it, let us know. That is a great question. I suspect the longer lock mechanism rod might transfer over from the 1Gen. Those things can't be that much from the U-Pull.

I grabbed it and will be heading down to Tucson in a couple weeks. The part is for a non-mechanically savvy friend. I will let everyone know how it goes. I think it was $20 (without motor), all the gear teeth were intact.
