hello
i have 97 hilux with 2l engine
my truck is suffering from lack of power
the compression test result is
wet - 430 psi 440 psi 470 psi 450 psi
dry - 410 psi 400 psi 450 psi 240 psi
i have notice that the timing case mark is not line up with the injection pump mark
approximately 2 -3 mm off
align up of the marks together like in the manual cause other adjustment ???

sorry for the poor english

It sounds like your engine may have a serious problem in cylinder four. 240psi is way too low. Sounds like it may need a bottom end rebuild at least. This is probably the source of your power problems.

If your engine is a mechanical injection one, you should have the proper tool to set the timing. It is a dial gauge that inserts into the back of the injection pump. Do not try to set the timing without this. If you absolutely cannot get one of these tools, it is possible to time it by ear and smoke....

Here are the manuals for your engine:

RM520E (Main for 2L, 3L & 5L engines)

Dropbox - 2L 3L 5L ENGINE RM520E.pdf

RM582E (Supplement for 2L, 2L-T, 3L and 5L engines)

SORRY TO MISLEAD YOU ABOUT CYLINDER 4 ITS TYPE ERROR ,
THE CORRECT RESULT IS 420 PSI
AS YOU SAY THE MARKS IS NOT A CORRECT INDUCTION FOR GOOD TIMING
I CHECKED THE VALVE CLEARANCE TODAY AND THE RESULT IS OUT OF SPEC
CY1 0.014'' EXH 0.005'' IN
CY2 0.014'' EXH 0.004'' IN
CY3 0.018'' EXH 0.004'' IN
CY4 0.014'' EXH 0.001'' IN
MANUAL SAY 0.008'' - 0.012'' IN 0.016'' - 0.020'' EXH (COLD)
ITS MEAN THAT THE VALVE IS NOT FULLY CLOSE WHEN THE ENGINE IS HOT???

Yes, fix that! You will need to find a source of shims you can use. I'm glad your compression is OK.

How do you know it lacks power? Have you compared it to other 2L's or has it gotten lower over time?

I'd not touch the pump alignment yet. Especially without the tooling needed.

Have your injectors gotten cleaned? Is it blowing much smoke? Are you watching the EGT's? Maybe you are under fueling.

Another biggie, does you truck have any rolling resistance, like brakes not disengaging?

thanks you all
i compared my truck to my friend truck and its incomparable
i didn't do anything to the injector so far ,and i dont have smoke
its no suffering of any brakes problems the wheel is turning fine
i am really hope that the valve clearance will solve the problem

maybe i will do leackdown test also
