Whats the normal amount of smoke for a 2H under hard acceleration? Seems to smoke a lot when accelerating hard. Is this normal. Has lots of power as it was just rebuilt. Is there anything to be adjusted or is this normal? The timing seems good as it has great power and economy. Also noticed the tranmission seems to be leaking a bit of fluid. While crossing the country it was run a low (almost 2 quarts, sh!t), is this going to cause any permenant damage? Still sounds and feels fine.

The 2H should only blow a moderate amount of smoke. You might need to look at the injectors or pump. Has the injector pump been adjusted ? If so it may need backing off, usually the pumps are locked off on the adjusting screw with a wire fixed with a lead seal. If this has been removed I think you can assume it has been adjusted incorrectly perhaps to help compensate for the smoke the worn motor was blowing previously.
You did not say where the transmission is leaking oil from so its hard to advise. It could be as simple as an O-ring on the speedo drive. If you run it low on oil and stuff the bearings etc it will cost big bucks. Best keep it topped up if you do not fix the leak and check the tightness of the bolts.goodluck

2 quarts?!? s*** is right. it only holds 5.2 quarts...
you should be fine though 5th might have starved a bit...

Injector and Injector Pump

Niether of these have been rebuilt yet. I cleaned the injectors but had no way to pressure test them. The wire on the back of the injector is still there. Looks like the tranny leaking around the seals.

Crossing what country?..how many miles before you checked the level? Leaking 2 quarts is a LOT of leaking...you should clean the transmission with solvent and then watch daily to find out where exactly the oil is coming from, my guess is the drain plug or perhaps (worse) the input shaft seal.

Might pay to have the injectors done first, they are a simple injector and are cheap to have done compared to some. Which seals are leaking in the tranny? If you mean the front or rear drive shaft seals on the transfer case they are a 15 minute job.

Sweet, it is the driveshaft seals. I noticed signs of leaking when I pulled it but my 4Runner looked the same and can cross the country United States) twice before needing any 80/90 added. And with pulling the engine, the rebuild and sorcing the parts we were majorly pressed for time to get to my sisters art show, in California (from Michigan) so I didn't do the driveshaft seals. Good to know. I gotta pull the driveshafts anyways and they need a couple U-joints on the front anyways.

LOL, Here they are about $9.00 to $10.00 each certainly cheaper than a rebuild or wasted oil.

Wish I had done that before we hit the road. Didn't think they would leak that much. Somehow too I thought it was way more work than it is. Are they the same seals as a gas Landcruiser would use? I feel kinda stupid and lazy for not changing them before we left.
