Here again...
I thought I'd post up not to spark the dino vs. synthetic debate but to share my experience with synthetics. My 2h has approximately 300,000km. on it. First I added seafoam to the crankcase to clean it up as best as it could then I drove around for about an hour. I received a case of royal purple from a local promo rep as he is trying to push royal purple on biodiesel trucks. Took the oil and my new filter to toyota and had them do the work. The oil that came out of the pan was so sludgy that it barely made it through the filter screen on their oil barrel. After some patience (had to drain the oil little by little) the plug and gasket were were put back on with the filter and royal purple was added.

My impressions:
The truck is a lot smoother, especially at lower rpms, but seems to drive a lot smoother as well. The idle instantly went up a little higher as well. It's been 4 days and I have no leaks. My synopsis is that though expensive I think the synthetics are definatley worth it- even on an old engine. We are going to do continued oil analysis on my truck so I'll post up the results.

By the way, i have no affiliations with any of the products I used.

cheers,
David

Seafoam,,Royal Purple????? Mate I thought that was going to be one wild paint job until I read your post.L.O.L. I take it Seafoam is a high detergent engine cleaner? In the wilderness we don't get some of your great products.cheers. :whoops:

I usually have been running rotella synthetic 5-40w(hydrocracked.. not a true syn) and I too had a case of Royal Purple 15-40 that i won. I've been running for a few months. I can't tell the difference between the two. The Royal Purple is a little bit thinner I think as I developed a small weep from inj pump after I added the purple.. Otherwise it's supposed to be top notch oil.

I have seen royal purple actually help an engine unleash more power, it suposivly lubricates so well and makes your motor slide so well that it increases HP, using it in a diesel is kinda stupied in my opinion, but then again maybe not, something that lubricates that well, will deffinitaly slow down wear in any motor.

Seafoam is for engine flush, you put it in your oil and drive a few KM then change your oil and it will be a black chuncky mess, it gets everything out, it is like putting ATF in your motor, just better made for the application and a little more expensive. I have been debating using it on my 3B, it has 270 000km on it, I am just affriad it will do more harm then good.

As for synthedic's in an old motor, you really shouldn't use synthdics in a new motor as they won't let the rings seat properly because it lubricates so well that it won't even allow the cross hatching to wear off the cylinders.

I herd all that stuff from a friends dad that has been an engine machinest for over 25 years, he rebuilds everything from honda civic motors, too chevy big blocks and big diesels for city trucks and buses. He has also said that for how much you have to change your oil, synthedics are not really even worth using in his opinion, if you wrote down the price difference on an oil chnage ever time you did it, until your motor was shot, you would find you could have rebuilt it for cheaper.

makes sense if your an engine machinest, but who wants to rebuild a motor, when they could have just put better oil in it.

I know what he mean though

I had wondered about seafoam in a diesel, I used it in my 2F and it did wonders. I had a freind who could not pass emisions and I suggested seafoam and he passed. I think I will give it a try in the 3B.

It's no miracle worker though...

That one needs Marvil Mystery oil.

I started out with marvel....

added seafoam... and the brake fluid... :censor:

looks like almost every rod and connecting bearing on the crank is rusted tight too.

Brake fluid ? or auto trans fluid?? Not sure if you meant brake fluid in the oil.
Ozcal said he has asked about seafoam in Brisbane and its unheard of there so up in the boonies there's buckleys chance. No doubt some of the truck specialists would have some similar product.

Carquest and CT carry seafoam, ask about royal purple there too! Those two places have it in Ontario

F motor been sitting for 10 plus years... I tend to think it wasn't a head gasket and that the kid/guy swamped the truck. parked it with water in the cyl for 10 years... Funny thing is the top of the pistons and upper bore is pretty decent. The oem fuel filter was almost packed tight with dirt and debris...I guess I'll never know cause the owner said it ran fine when it was parked.... :whoops:

hood up with the dipstick removed?
if you need a good 2F i have one here, you just need to drive up and get it..
;^)

I've used SEAFOAM for years on all my gasoline engines. Great stuff.

- fuel stabilizer
- gas tank to help remove moisture, clean lines and injectors
- fuel system cleaner to help remove carbon build up
- clean crankcase before oil change, I add it every 30,000 mi. to the crankcase about 100-200 mi. before oil change

Does anyone know the makeup of Seafoam? I want to see if there is a similar product down here. And no, I'm not going to try to mix up a homebrew batch in the basement...

It doesn't really say on the bottle
it says

"Since 1942"
"A product containing 100% pure petroleum, for use in all gasoline and diesel type engines, both 2 and 4 cycle. OXYGEN SENSOR SAFE, Clean dirty engine parts internally by removing harmful gums, varnish and carbon. WORKS AND PERFORMS INSTANTLY. Removes moisture from oil crankcase and fuel tanks. Stabilizes and conditions fuels. Use for engine storage. Cures hesitations, stalls, pings and rough idles due to carbon buildup. Helps pass emissions tests"

From what I have herd there are alot of engine cleaners, but nothin works like seafoam, that coming from someone that has rebuilt motors for 25 years. I trust his word, although he thinks I'm nuts for buying my cruiser.

Its an old product which could be why there website sucks
