2H Lift Pump Failure (1 Viewer)

I bought an HJ60 a few weeks back. It would not run properly, it was down on power, and needed repriming every 5klms or so.

A few hours work and its running sweetly now.

What a mess the fuel system was in:

• Crush washer missing off one side of the banjo inlet to the lift pump - almost certainly sucking air at this point. replaced
• 60L of old dirty vegetable oil found in the fuel tank - drained.
• Very dirty fuel filter - replaced and prefilled with injector cleaner
• Factory sedimenter had never been cleaned and had a pinhole leak - deleted.
• The mesh screen in the injection pump inlet banjo was occluded - cleaned
• A 12V Fuel pump has been placed near the fuel tank outlet (the reason why wasnt clear at the time) - removed
• Bleeder nipple on the fuel filter housing was completely rounded off (someone's been struggling for a while I think) - replaced
• Lift Pump had failed (explaining the 12V pump!) - replaced

I bet the inside of the fuel tank and filter is also full of crud and bugs.

So they put on a pusher pump to force the fuel through all that sh&t LOL. The whole vehicle reeks of previous owners who had big plans, but didnt have a clue.
Is the body as good as it looks in the pic?

Wow. That truck must be thanking the good lord it's in your hands now! When I had a lift pump sieze up all I did was to unscrew the giant nut off the pump and free up the plunger. It doesn't take much crap to get it stuck. I really thought mine was going to be junk but once I washed it out with some clean diesel and worked it so it was smooth it was good to go. They are simple robust units.

Yeah.. it had other issue as well.. was charging at 16.5V when I got it.. no Sensor wire had been hooked up to the Alternator when a previous owner did the conversion to internally regulated.

The body is in great shape.

If you take that huge nut off you can work it from both sides. I was going to chuck mine and took it apart for fun to examine it and ended up fixing it.
