Hey does anyone know of source for 2H headers (or better flowing manifolds), if they exist.

Thank You

Andrew

They sure do exist. Pacemaker are the oldest header manufacturer (we call em extractors;) ) in oz and I know they make a 2H header and for all the other toyota diesels also.
They are usually on oz ebay. They also sells the pacemakers with a ceramic coating on them.

I think this is a set in the pic, forgive me if I am wrong.

Is there actually an advantage running those extractors? I mean, the 2H doesn't make much power to begin with...

I drove a 88 HJ75 a while back that was for sale. A mechanic owned it and he had the headers on it with the fuel turned up just a pinch and the engine was recently rebuilt by him also.
I took it for a 10klm test drive through the suburbs and on the freeway and it didnt embarass me once.
How much the header contributed was debateable, but the 2H shouldnt be judged on its power when its 20 years old with 400000klms on the clock;)

The power increase is noticeable with a better exhaust, but fairly minimal , best put the money towards a turbo with a 3 inch mandrel exhaust. At that time the headers/ extractors become obsolete. With the turbo you have a totally different motor. The Safari Turbo manifold has a free flowing design for the 2H but all the other after market turbo manifolds seem to work on a par.

Rosco, that has got to be the ugliest set of header I have seen...:)

I think headers on this kinda engine would not be a big enough difference to warrant the install or cost. But that is my 2 cents.

Turbo baby!!!

!

Im not 100% they are the item, but yeah they are kind of ugly:D

LOL, Nothing wrong with the headers its the technicolor motor  :D

The owner was supposed to be a mechanic (different to the HJ75 owner)who worked 2 on 1 off in the mines and his friend was selling it for him.

His friend kept telling me how it had just been rebuilt but I couldnt get it through his head I wanted to know exactlywhat had been done.

All he could say was its rebuilt and had everything done.
Yeah but whats everything? and why does it have this annoying little wisp of blue smoke at idle?

Then he would start telling me how good his buddy was at rebuilding engines and we would go around in the same circle.

So I tried a new tack. Can I speak to the owner by phone?
Embarrassed shuffles and pleas for me to believe them.(his wife had joined in)

I fawkin give up:mad:

Then you wouldnt believe it,I get a phone call a week later wanting me to come back and talk about it:D
So I ask him can he provide a list of what was done to the engine?
Voice on phone-My buddys good at rebuilding engi..... dial tone:flipoff2:

LOL!!
many years ago i bought a old FJ40 off a farmer, now coming from the farming community i should have known better but he bought the truck originally from right around the corner from me a couple years back and then decided he didn't want to restore it...
"yah, got the engine rebuilt, now i just want the POS out of my yard"
okay then, sounds good to me... i drive 2 hours up and there it sits in all it's rusted glory. the engine did "look" good.
"batteries dead, got no jumpers. did you bring a set with yah?" nope, can't start it up.
"yah know, i couldn't find the paperwork for the rebuild. i know i got it here somewhere, i'll send it down when i find it"
likeable old fart so"sure" i hooked it up and dragged it back home. stuck a battery in and it fired right up. shut er down and parked it for a few months. decided to take it wheeling and the bloody thing was running rough and blowing blue...WTF?? maybe dead gas and the rings haven't sealed yet... yah, that's it...

the thing never did run right so did a compression test. the results were all over the board. i pulled the head to check head and cyl walls and the bloody thing never was rebuilt...
now, if it don't start, i walk away. if they don't have paperwork for work claimed to have been done, i walk away. if the guy sounds "fishy", i walk away.
fool me once, shame on you
fool me twice and shame on me...

20 years ago I got invited on fishing trip and was asked if I could drive the FJ45 troopy and boat to Coral Bay,650miles north;)
They would follow on later in a brand new company car:D

The troopy had been off the road for nine months while the owners friend,a farmer, rebuilt the old 2F on the farm.
They got it finished less then 24 hours before the planned departure time.
I heard they had a lot of little parts left over and there was a bolt that was too long and hitting the block each time the crank spun around.
Also the air filter assembly had been lost on the farm.

Well I left at 4am in the fog, dodging roos and sleepiness with a ladies stocking for an air cleaner and running in a rebuilt engine.
The steering was also tight as the old grease had dried up but it sooned loosened up and the brakes began to work ,slowly.

And then the brakes began to go south and lose pressure. I found a brake line was modified and too rigid and was about to come free from the MC.
I cut it off and managed to tap out another flange but it was ready to break off by the time I got to Carnarvon.
Mechanic was closed so I booked into a motel and got it fixed in the morning.

As it turned out the engine was ok and the knocking bolt wore down.
I saw the owner of the FJ45 ,he still has it 20 years later and the rebuilt engine is still running strong against all my expectations:D

just wondering if anyone been hable to buy those exhaust manifolds for turbos aplications from AXT, Turbo Glide etc etc etc ..

I think a lot of us were jacked on our first cruiser purchase. I'm no exception.

I bought one with the intention of making it a daily driver. Three years later I finally had to give up. I had driven it maybe 100 miles including the 60 mile trip to bring it home the first time. I finally had to accept that the thing was a turd, the PO was a lying SOB, and no amount of time or money would change that.

The bastard PO even had the balls to lecture me about integrity.

hey those are some good stories.

I have lost trust in people I don't know. I always question everything.

I find in life we have to balance risk and safety(or sure things). Sometimes I risk with a purchase. But I know going in I am risking it, so nothing surprises me. But still disappointment cannot be overcome.

I've had purchases that have scared me away from buying. Example with ebay. Once I had a sweet T100 truck I really wanted to make it diesel powered. I knew very little about diesel swaps but wanted to try. SO I searched for awhile and found a 2L-t for it. I was going to go that route. I bought the engine on ebay, was getting ready to wire the 2300 usd he wanted in California, but then I needed some more info. Was talking with him and he said "ooh that motor eh".. " I just sold it when you were bidding".. I say " yah but we have been in communications after twice since". He answers " I have another engine you can have for the same price, a 3L"... I say " nah I don't want anything from you, good bye".

It turned me off Ebay for quite some time. Just last year I broke the cycle and bought a Mac off Ebay. It wasn't too bad a deal. But the seller did lie about how old it was, by 6 weeks. The difference was I could not get extended applecare. He did though come good with it and paid the shipping back to me.
So the deal was Ok with me. Not great but oh well it has been a great computer.

Managing risk I tell yah.
