2h alternator amp ouput for huge winch(24v)

heres the deal.
i have a warn 18k winch that i am(/want) to run on my truck. i have a 2h 24v motor. from what i gather the alternator is rated for 55amps.

now on the warn website (Warn Industries - Electric DC Winches: Series 18) the motor amp range is in between 60-280 amps.
110amp seems like the lowest draw it will put out under load and that says for only 3000lbs...

how is my alternator gonna handle this?

ive read of some upgrades to 80 or 110amp alternators, but i need to keep this on a low budget.
 
No alternator can support a winch at its full load, just forget about it.

When you're winching, you're using your battery. Yeah, winches suck a lot of juice - most people find you get only a handful of long pulls before your battery needs a charge - this is one of the bonuses of PTO winches.
 
what about deep cycle batteries? i had a class 31 yellow top for my 3fe/ m12000, i used the winch over 50times with no sign of wear on the battery.
arent yellow tops designed to be drained and charged

Generally cranking batteries would be better than a deep cycle. Cranking batteries are designed to take a big amp draw for short periods and recharge quickly.
Deep cycle batteries are better with a small amperage over longer period.
Of course it depends on how big the deep cycle battery is.

Unless you intend to go right out and start winching, I'd mount the winch and go test it using your current batteries to see how it works and how much operation you can expect from the batteries you already have.

Don't let the snow ball get rolling, as it were....

I didn't even bother hooking up my winch until I installed a second battery. Right now I don't have it isolated, that will come sooner than later. But for now, both batteries are sharing the load. All a higher output alternator will do is recharge your batteries quicker. (or become a welder). I don't know the output of the stock (FJ62/3Fe) alternator, but I do know over time it will recharge both the batteries.

well the winch works, i have POS cable to main battery, and NEG to 2nd battery.

first test was easy, pull bj80 that put the rear diff on a big rock

second test, pull my buddys jimmy on a trailer.
i notice that while dragging up, the voltage went from 28v to 24v and recharged itself within seconds when the winch stopped. i had the throttle on 1500rpms. now id say the jimmy was maybe 4000lbs so this was still an easy pull
